having being dedicated to flat/slightly convex grinding, i managed to install a 11" wheel on my grinder and plan to try some hollow blades.
Does someone of You Makers relay on the spine to hone the edge on the stone in this kind of grind, the same way adopted for straight razor honing? I think it could result in easy maintenance of the edge for the end user, but i need Your consideration about it.
thank You

Stefano.

The edge angle on a knife is normally higher than the bevel angle. That requires lifting the spine from the stone to sharpen the edge.
A razor has a much lower edge angle, and the thickness of the spine is used to determine this angle.

Thanks Stacy, i was doing a little math and the geometry of the resulting blade is very ugly, and weak...like a lightened scandi, not so good to see, not so strong to use. :)
Very fat spine and few meat near the edge...also a short hollow-bevel, of course without distal taper.
