Hi,

For you guy's that use traditional sharpening stones, do you use Honing oil? I know it was popular with some to sharpen without it. What are your thought's on this issue?

Thank's in advance:D !!!

Bob -I'm going to relocate your post to the Blade Discussion Forum, as the content is more appropriate for that forum, plus you'll get more responses.

My 2 cents - by "traditional" do you mean to include diamond bench stones? If so, I don't use oil or water with my DMT's. Since I do my sharpening in my garage, having access to running water down there is nil. To help things along I usually have a wet rag at my side and from time to time, wipe down the surface of the stone to remove the fines and then keep on truckin'. Occasionally I will give the stones a good scrub down in the kitchen sink to clean them up good. Hope this helps.

I use no water (or oil for that matter) on my DMT stones or regular stones. I just give them a good scrubb'n every once in a while. I learned this from Joe Talmadge's advice on sharpening.

the scrub brush is the best tool for getting the metal flakes out of the abrasives.

so sharpen near a sink and every so often put it under hot water and scrub the sh** out of it. then start grinding again

If you're extremely lazy like myself, and there is NO OIL on your stones, just slip them into the dish washer while your wife isn't looking.
;)

(Putting oil saturated stones in the dish washer will result in dangerous levels of "gastric distress" when next you eat off of the dishes that shared the load with your stones.

(Yes, it really works.)
