Looked to see if any Honk Falls knives had sold on eBay recently. A rusty two blade sold for $473. Item 320044434431. Wow.

Are these knives pretty highly sought on the whole, or was this model particularly rare?

Old toenails are quite desirable, and anything from Honk Falls is rare! They made knives from 1921 to 1929 only, according to Levine's guide! That nicely patina-ed old knife is just what an informed collector wants, not some polished up pig-in-a-poke!!
"Shiney" old knives are a travesty! Lord save me from "shiney" (buffed:eek: ) knives!!

This one was passed down to me from my grandfather via my father.

It still has the best walk and talk, with solid half-stops, of any slipjoint I own. It ain't shiny. I just keep it oiled.

Both blades are stamped:
HONK FALLS
KNIFE Co.
NAPANOCH
N.Y. U.S.A.

I'd be curious as to its model name and value, if there are any Honk Falls collectors here. I posted it on BF a long while back, and someone called it a "serpentine jack." Correct? mckgreg, any ideas on either ID or value?

No sale inquiries, please. My plan is to hand this one over to my son one day.

Sweet knife; nicely used and preserved!!

Guyon,
I've got a buddy who just won an equal end jack Honk Falls knife at a local auction (only a few miles from the original factory!).It was in similar condition to yours, nice sharp tang stamp, no cracks or chips.Ths was an un-advertised auction and it still cost him $320, so I'd imagine yours would be worth at least that much. You've got a damned nice, super rare knife there, and to have had it in the family for several generations makes it priceless. Hang on to that baby, some collectors go a lifetime without even seeing a honk falls.
Eric

Guyon: great old Honk Falls knife - it's the real deal! That pattern is normally called a "half trapper" -- even though that might seem a bit nonintuitive. This same pattern was made by a number of the old greats: New York Knife Co and Schrade Cutlery Co pop in my mind right off. Essentially it's a jack version of a full 2 bladed trapper.

And PLEASE, do not shine it up -- and if anyone suggests buffing it, kick them someplace painful, we've got your back! Buffing destroys all the fine details that the great old cutlers put into it -- all that nice precise shaping, grinding, and swedging on the blades will be rounded off and ruined.

The knife isn't going anywhere, guys. Nor is its patina.

If I feel the urge to shine something, I'll use Brasso on some Buck 110 bolsters. :D

Thanks for the info, zerogee.
