Neat locking mechanism on the sheath.... course he's dope on a rope so he doesn't have to worry about "Jumping" like the rest of the men :p Little interservice rivalry there.... Lovely knife, too pretty to be in the field though. High cool factor for opening MRE's or making a hootch

Hi, Will. I'm sorry if I wasn't clear on that. The original design was by a sniper in the 101st Airborne. This is a custom for a different client. Here's a picture of the original carried through several rotations in OIF:

I actually do have guys carrying mirror finished, even gemstone handled knives in combat though. It depends on the guy.

Thanks!

WOW...I love that one. Sort of has the shape of a mini kukhri. I also like the black palm and filework. Cool sheath too!

Great having you posting your work here Jay. It's a pleasure to see it.

Thanks,
Peter

your sheaths are marvels in and of themselves, Jay:thumbup:

Man, I love this one. Functional, super sheath, gotta great "kool" factor - AND it's got some black palm!!

Thanks, guys.
The shape is designed entirely by the original guy, the sniper. He put a lot of thought into it. It's just large enough for some heavy cutting and defense, but has enough recurve to maintain that razor keen edge of an inside curve near the ricasso. This type of grind borders on double concave, at the recurve combined with the hollow grind. It's a great design, consequently, I've got a lot of orders up for this one, all outfitted differently.

Black Palm is a great wood, the only palm that is hard enough for a handle I've heard. When you get this stuff in bright sunlight, those dark streaks become translucent orange... neat.

When I first started making sheaths for the military, they insisted on the toughest possible arrangements. I'm still very determined today to make some of the best, most useful sheaths out there. These are double thickness kydex, formed over an aluminum welt frame. The aluminum is a corrosion resistant variety: 5052H32. The Chicago screws are 1/4" shank, nickel plated steel. The entire locking mechanism is stainless steel, 304 and 302, each piece handmade.

Thanks,
Jay
