Hoodoo, a question about Jeff Randall's Pilot Survival Knife article in TK...

Or, I guess anybody else could answer this as well.

What issue was this in? The last issue I received was May 2001. After thumbing through that issue to reassure myself that I hadn't missed it (unlikely, as I read that mag cover-to-cover), I called Tactical Knives Customer Service and asked why I hadn't received my copy. The lady said she'd send me the latest issue, which I got in today's mail: May, 2001. So, before I call again, could someone tell me what month this article was in, so I can tell the lady at TK which issue I'm missing. I would assume it's July, but with the weird way magazines have of dating their wares, I could be wrong, and I want the exact month, because when I called last time, I asked her to send me the latest issue, and I got one from 2 months back. Any help, as always, is greatly appreciated. I HATE missing out on this magazine, and especially want to read Jeff's article on the PSK.

Thanks, Jeff. Now all I have to do is convince the lady on the phone that I want the July issue, not a third May, and I'll be in business.

You've had a lot of really good articles here lately, and I'm glad that you got around to taking an oldie-but-goodie into the jungle with you. It's a lot easier for me to afford a PSK than some of the other knives you've evaluated. But I REALLY liked your rundown on the Campanion, as it came just about a month after I got one myself. Great knife, especialy for the money. And a great article on it, as well.

I agree with you on the less expensive knives. From my travels around the world, nearly ALL knives that are used for everyday survival have a very small price tag. That's not to say there's not some excellent cutlery out there that costs more.

Our latest project is trying to get a larger manufacturer to take on an new machete design. We are designing a machete around the Peruvian Air Force Survival School, but I'm having a helluva time getting the larger companies to show interest. I guess, once again, we'll design the damn thing and out-source it ourselves. I have found that rejection in life usually leads to better things anyway. I think the problem is most of the big boys already have a machete, but the problem I have found with that is some of the machetes are useless pieces of junk. We need more designs like the Becker Patrol Machete, in other words something that works, designed from from folks that have actually used one for weeks at a time before drawing a picture and sending it to the fab shop.

Mike- My issue arrived only last week! I guess that some mail is delivered by regular mail carriers and some is indeed SNAIL mail. Perhaps it is how they used to call it "US Mule!"
