As I am getting long in the tooth, I find my foot nails are getting thicker than horseshoes. Drugstore clippers don't do it any more. I suppose I could get a good pair of wire cutters, but I'm wondering if there is something bigger and more elegantly designed for this situation (I won't call it a problem, because it probably does enable me to dig in faster and better for open ground running - perfect for Scottish games :D)

I have a pair of German made Revlon toe-nail clippers that will cut anything up to and including my dog's claws. I actually have a pair of claw snips for his comfort though.

Seriously though, that Revlon toe-nail clipper works very well. It looks like a wire cutter, with a heavy head.

You could always try the Dremel tool, like the dog claw trimmer they show on the infomercials.:D

I'll second the Revlon products. I use their nail clippers and keep some Revlon tweezers in my first aid kit. They do make a good product.

Try clipping those claws after a hot shower when they're a bit waterlogged.

Second recommendation for a Dremel with a sanding tube to thin your nails. I have been thinking about this for a few weeks. I have one nail that has been damaged twice and it becomes really thick. Or if you are a really hard man with balls of steel, you could opt for the cut off wheels to trim your nails. I personally discounted this idea. :)

Thanks guys, glad to see this is a man problem we can discuss without embarrassment :D I understand that nails are softer after a shower or bath and that keeps them from ricocheting around the room.

Problem for me is that they are getting so thick I can't get them into the clipper. I will look for the Revlon clippers and give them a try.

I don't have a Dremel tool, but I do have a flex-shaft power wood carving tool that gets up to about 20,000 rpms. Assorted carving bits and grinders. The speed is actually a plus...might be worth a try, something new to entertain my wife. :)

Hunter, that AG Russell looks good, I want something with extreme leverage.

There's also some kind of nail grinder for dogs that they've been advertising on TV, that might be the trick.

LOL, I've got a pair of those top ones, forgot they're horse hoof trimmers, I've been using them to pull nails and screws out of wall board.

That bottom set looks like the ticket, thanks...;)

I know this post is probably dead, but just as an afterthought, I picked up a pair of those toenail/wirecutters today at Rite-Aid, because I happened to be there and didn't want to go on an Easter egg hunt all over the web to find the "perfect" ones. The package said the handles (rubber grips) were made in China, but the pliers were made in Pakistan. I bought them. I think I've hit a new low. Happy New Year :D
