Couple of weeks ago I got a bone handle 18 GR from Uncle and since then I've seen some threads talk about the treatment of a bone handle.

Is Hooflex the treatment of choice?

I want to maintain the color and avoid shrinkage.

Are there any other concerns with a bone handle that I should be aware of?

Generally bone, stag, and ivory handles react well to mineral oil rubs once in a while. That's what I was told for my mammoth ivory knife.

I've used a tall, narrow jar of olive oil to treat bone, ivory, stag and horn handles for about 30 years, and it seems to work. I let them sit in the oil over night, let them drain and wipe off the excess. Use regular olive oil, save the extra-virgin for salads.

Yes! don't let the dog near it without close supervision

antler and had good results. It does seem to darken the handle though. I suppose mineral oil ought to work quite well and might last longer than the vegetable oils.

Ahhh so many choices that are successful :)
OOps there goes the dog again. Koko fetch me the khuk :)
She never brings it back tho....sigh
