I'd very much like to get into woodworking, and I wanted to know what everyone likes for hook and draw knives. I've seen some inexpensive ones with crappy reviews and some overly priced forged ones that could probably be made by BF people for half the price. I just wanted to see what everyone likes for a good, mid-price hook knife and draw knife.

That being said, I'm open to quotes if anyone makes them; I'd rather support the maker here than anywhere else, so let me know!

For a hook knife, I would consider mora of sweden's offerings. For the draw knife, I would go to your local antique store, or mall, or swap meet. I've got some family up in MN, and I always come back with a few great tools, they're plentiful up there from my small experience. :)

Lots of Scandanavian people here, but the search continues. If your family up here has any good spots to hit, please pass the info my way.

Half swede myself, unfortunately I don't have any to share, me and my family just stop by whatever we run across while we're driving up there. Sorry I can't be of more help. :(

If I am not sure about the quality I would be getting I often order from Lee Valley. They have been 100% reliable in the past. That is where I would go for the draw knife. For the hook knife, that would depend on what you are looking to use it for because that will determine the size of the hook. I have a double-edge bent from North Bay Forge that I really like and I also have some bents from Cape Forge that are very well done.

This is a great starting point. Thanks for the tip!

My only experience is with a Flexcut right handed curved knife for making spoons and bowls etc. It came super sharp and works great, like a melon baller is some ways.
I also use various gouges to work out hollows in spoons and bowls. These work well too.
I am looking at a Flexcut draw knife since I have been very happy with all their products so far.
