It's here! it's here! it's finally here! my favorite three days of the entire year!

I love it! the beautiful golden, orange, and red hues on the leaves, the smell of a campfire and the the lightest hint of a breeze at your back, all the critters gettin' active, fattening up and getting food for winter, fishin', long walks through a thick blanket of leaves. Not too hot for the chores I put off all summer, but not too cold, the tourists have all gone home.

It's the absolute best time of year. I hope for a couple days of camping, fishing, canoeing, and perhaps even a little bit of hunting my next R&R. I just hope I dont' miss too much of it while I'm on the slope.

YIPPEE!!! FOR AUTUMN!!!

anyone wanna come over for some pumpkin pie and some coffee while watchin' the autumn sunset from the porch? Maybe kick through the leaves and hunt up some spruce hen and rabbit?:D :D

It IS the best time of the year, RWS. Blessed cooler weather and cold fronts, which brush away hurricanes. Archery and small game season. Camping. Halloween. Next month the lawn'll stop growing... another reason to be happy.

The wheel turns; we're feeling it. Another season of our life gone. But who's unhappy? Time's going to pass whether you enjoy the passage, anyways. Breathe deep the cool air; enjoy the Harvest Moon.

It was a hard end to the summer for me . The hardest in my life .
Everything you spoke of feels good to me ..... from a distance .
It is perhaps a good thing to be reminded of it . Air so cool and fresh you seem to drink it in .
Time maybe for another harvest of mint and juniper from my laneway garden , have a look at the rosehips I discovered along a woodland path last week .

I will do my best to make this day a new start . Look ahead instead of behind .

Kevin, I am sorry to hear again how hard this time is for you. Sorrier yet when I recall that you've said you'll be logging off the web (and so, the Cantina) when Fall ends. I hope other options emerge, to counter what's brought you down.

Fall is my favourite season - and to my delight, it's hugely long here in the Maritimes. The colours are starting, and will set the hills on fire in another 2-3 weeks. even the fall garden lasts 'till late November. I love the crisp days, the smell of the leaves, the reflections of the trees in the water.

Tom I went out to my garden and looked over my mint . I have some vietnamese mint I am hoping will flower so I will be able to harvest some seeds . In truth I,ve only tasted it once and not found it particularly minty . I have to give it a fair chance before moving on .

All things change as this thread happily pointed out to me . If things did not change for me and us all I could not imagine ten years from now . So change is good , Autumn is here , I will move on and who knows , six months from now I may be back .

For now I have a big steaming mug of mint tea sitting in front of me and I think of getting back to sharpening up those broadheads . I will be cleansing my gear with a big smudge of Juniper thanks to Yvsa,s post on the subject .

long walks in the woods . Hope there are others walking who are less wary .
Setting up in a tree somewhere and half dream of the better times ahead .

I have come to enjoy and appreciate autumn more and more over the years. First and foremost, it means a break from the heat of SC summers. When I was younger (and in better shape) I could endure the heat, but now I like being outside in cooler weather. I also enjoy the prospect of fall colors. Happy fall to all.

Fall is my favorite time of the year. The leaves change, work hours are scaled back (the one blessing of salary), my wife and I's first anniversery is coming up next month, Halloween, apples, soups and stews, brisk crunching walks through the woods with the dog.

Good stuff

Jake

I love fall. But then again, I love all seasons. It's all good. :)

Chris

Indeed. Fall would have to be my favorite though. It's such a wonderful time for building fires in the early morning and roasting an apple while watching the leaves fall. It's also nice that all the people in my town go back inside because they don't like cold weather, so I have things more to myself. Fall also means school is in season, which keeps the town pretty clear during morning and early afternoon. The abundance of life spring and summer display is great in it's own, but fall has a smell and a feel I've really come to cherish. It sneaks up on you then gives way to winter before its time should of passed. I'll take what I can get. Looking forward to Winter anyways. :)

Agreed. We've got the windows and doors open. The bills drop. And its so nice at night.

Fall is my favorite time of year, though I'm also quite fond of winter (KNITTING WEATHER!!!). Spring is okay. If I liked summer I would have stayed home. ;)

It's kinda wierd Kevin....

I know the calendar new year doesn't start 'till January, but for me, on a more spiritual level it starts about this time of fall. It's Not always a joy filled happy season, it's often times sorta melancholy, or bitter sweet. I think back over the last winter and summer, think about my regrets, think about times of happiness. It's very much a time for reflecting on my life. I feel a strong sense of innner peace by the time I'm sipping a cup of hot cocoa and watching the first snowfall of the winter.

I hope this Fall does the same for you, my friend.

yipes....boy does this Percocet stuff make me run off at the mouth....:o

An earlier post I made in another forum
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The air is getting crisper, some leaves are dropping, the tomatoes are in full flesh and sweetness, the soybeans and corn are at their full height...it is the end of August in Wisconsin.

As it cools at night, and the day-time temperatures are lower, I can feel a quickening of my system. For some reason, I want to take out the shotguns and clean them again...checking the actions. I start looking to see how many trap are left in the box and where the hand-thrower is. My boots got more mink oil on them last week; I looked for the steel shot shells in anticipation of the migratory bird season. I went through my knives, smiling.

Young Bert, the not-right dog, began bouncing up and down as I took out the shotguns, barking at first, then coming over to sit like a vibrating statue as I wiped them down.

The high grasses and weeds and the cat-tails are wilting now...soft fluff from the cat-tails floats with strong breezes that come through. No leaves are changing on the maples and oaks, but the scrub trees are becoming more bare.

And soon, pheasant season will start and Young Bert and I will take weary legs and stout hearts, and small smiles out to generate fatigue and memories.

The charger is on the old slash seven BMWs--the bikes of the season. Somehow, the crispness demands the rhythm of the twin cylinders and the smoothness of the sweepers winding through the rolling hills of this part of the state, where the glaciers never flattened the terrain.

It is Fall. The best season. The years have been going quickly, so I savor the mobility I have, and the moments of the days--they will pass soon.

But they are soon to be upon us, and while here, they are wonderful.

Be well and safe.

You have all said it well. This is my favorite time also. The air gets crisp...less humidity. I can start drinking coffee and tea again. It somehow feels as if the world is getting clean again. The khukuris really get some appreciation this time of year as their efforts help to provide warmth as I sit by the campfire and stare at the stars. I do miss the green during winter but nothing can compare to the colors we get now.

My favorite time of year, too. Met my wife in the Fall. Best thing that ever happened to me. We wish it could last six months.
