Was just at the social security office. Had to go back to car to leave my KNIFE! Yeeeeeks....Two and a half inches of national peril.
All I could think of while there was jumping over the table and BITING the functionary. Heh.
Good think I had already thought to leave my legal CCW .357 mag in the car.

Our local social security office has a huge sign right on the door saying that NO weapons what so ever are permitted. I think if its legal for you to carry a gun or knife in public, Then you should be able to anywhere (IE. Post Office, Social Security Office, Etc) I can understand bars though.

i dont know if i agree or not but i can see the reasoning. several of our social security offices here have had to put security screens up due to people going mental and trashing the place when theyre told theyre no longer entitled to benefits. we arent allowed weapons here but if we were it would have made it several times worse...unless that is the person stood next to them had blown them away with their weapon. thats an advantage to weapons that people seem to forget for some reason...

same thing happened when i took my wife to get a new SS card after we got married.
evidently the government realizes that it is so aggravating and ridiculous the common man cannot be expected to control himself in the presence of a deadly weapon.
i agree w/ them. the last time i dealt w/ the federal govt. i was ready to squeeze someone's throat until their head popped off.

seriously though, i agree w/ thebadguy. if i can carry it to my doctor's office (yet another place that sets me off) i should be able to carry it when dealing w/ the govt.
maybe the service would improve.

I love when I walk up to the metal detector at the local courthouse, and the sign says no knives or weapons of any kind allowed past this point, than I use my County Employee ID card to swipe my way past security and the detectors. What a great feeling knowing I'm the only civilian in there with a BM AFCK, and what ever else I happen to be carrying.

Working for the Govement does have some advantages.:D

Kind of a funny thing...

I've been on Grand Jury Duty for the past couple months, and every day I've shown up for Jury Duty I've been carrying an Emerson P-Sark and a Spyderco Wegner in my left and right side pockets, and either a Spyderco Mini Dyad or Emerson La Griffe around my neck, and haven't heard a word about it. I've even used the Mini-Dyad to cut up the candy bar I was eating for lunch without complaint from anyone. The DA was right there in front of me. I've figured that if confronted about carrying a weapon in the Courthouse I would respond by informing them that I have a utility piece, NOT a weapon, and probably then pointing out that if a person wanted to talk about weapons, the big heavy microphones on the long cords could put a world of hurt on a person, but it's not banned as a weapon.

"But the mike has a useful purpose..."

so does my pocketknife....:D

I don't have a problem with their posting a sign asking people to leave their weapons outside. I have a problem with defining a pocket knife as a weapon, though.

Run With Scissors:
You guys have courthouses up there in Alaska?

I thought you guys just tied up your bad guys to a tree and let the bears take care of them ;)

In the 14 plus years I have lived in South Dakota I have never had to remove my knife befor going into any building, courthouse, post office, S.S. office,etc....
Had jury duty a couple times also. Never even thought about my knife being in my pocket.
I don't give my knife any thought befor going into any place.

You got to love South Dakota :)

The same place I got a concealed carry permit from has a sign that says no weapons allowed.

The ultimate irony isn't it?
I thought the thread is about the Spydie Harpy/Merlin. Lavan, do you need to borrow my Merlin next time?

funny you should mention considering i got FIRED for carrying a pocket knife to work.

More than likely this is the reason you got fired, don't you think ? and I quote from your post :

"I recal saying "If 'blank' doesnt promote me soon I am gonna go postal and gun down everybody and thier mother"

So quit trying to make it seem like the knife is why you got fired.
Hell what would happen if you were working at a knife store and said that ? You would probably ( hopefully ) get fired. I know I would not want you around making threats while carrying a knife.

Oops tony, he IS the one who's fired because he had a pocket knife with him, a spydie Lum if my memory serves correctly.
