I have just ordered a GORGEOUS block of buckeye burl to use for my stripped BK11 but I have never made scales before, don't know how and don't even have the tools to do it if I did. I've seen some of you guys have made scales for you neckers and that you aren't necessarily knife makers. So what I'm asking is if anyone would be willing to let me send the burl and hardware to them and then shape them for the bk11 and drill the holes for the screws/bolts. I don't want the entire bottom of the handle exposed, just the bottle opener enough to open bottles. That's why I ordered wood myself cuz all the sets of bk11 scales I see have too much of the handle exposed. Here's a pic of what I would like done. I would consider a small fee but since I'm currently very poor I'm asking for a favor first. Or maybe a barter situation even. So if anyone out there can assist me in this please let me know. I expect to have the wood by early next week and hope to get going right away and of course I'll be paying for all the postage.
This set goes close to the ricasso like I want

This style is also really nice and if easier for you to do would be perfect too. I would like them to come a bit closer to the ricasso like the set above. I don't mind if it partially covers the BK11 stamp, I just want a bigger handle.

I could give it a try, but I am pretty busy and I don't want to guaranty anything.

I'm just like you - no skills but going to try anyway. We can do this. Maybe, since you have ordered some very special wood, make the first set with any old wood you can find, make all the mistakes on that, and only then start working with your good stuff. I think I will try for a set of Remora grips and maybe need a couple of tries.

Id say ask Oregon Fa'ler very nicely. He does GOOD work. If he says no then ill do it. Only prob is i dont have an 11 so you would have to send the knife as well. Why not just make the handles permanent with epoxy and pins? I always felt like wood should have a classy flush feel that you get with pins, I never like the feel of bolt holes on wood.

What he said.

If you do it yourself, practice before using your good handles. If you have a belt sander, it makes things much easier. Turn it upside down, clamp the handle in a vice and you can shape handles easily
A coping saw (or jig saw) a drill, file, some sand paper and a LOT of patience are all you need. TAKE YOUR TIME. Measure/fit a bazillion times before you cut or drill. Not that difficult, just tedious
and I have the attention span of a guppy so ...

I've made them, but not for other people (sorry) I ain't that good and wouldn't want to wreck 'em on you.

As clich said, Fa'ler is the go to guy on this.

I'd be willing to help you out too Mike, but I changed my handle so I'd need your knife. If you want it permanent that makes it easier. Hey I recognize that photo lol.

If Oregon doesn't want to, I'll take care of you.

One question I've got is if you're wanting to keep the stock sheath. If so, you're gonna be limited on how far the handle scales can go. You'll probably need to go for a custom kydex or leather sheath.
