The Bearded Axe was a custom order. I e-mailed him a pic with all the dimesions written out. Would you belive it actually throws great?!!
The Ranger Hawk is an uncatologued standard item for Will. He's been making them for years for the Buckskinner crowd. In the case of mine, it "seems" to me that he had one of his "Medieval Spiked Axes" and just recontoured it to the Ranger Hawk Profile. It is way too heavy in my opinion. I am going to do a little surgery on it. Grind away that part underneath to shave some weight, and shave a little off of the top contour too. Then rehandle it with figured curly maple, and cold blue the head. It cost the same as the Medieval head. The Bearded Ax was $15 more. I think Will just raised his prices a bit though.
Jon, I'll email you on the price.
The bearded ax will be getting a handle transplantn as well. That head is just too unwieldy on a 19" handle. Anybody got a spare 30" CS handle lying around?
Don't expect any progress reports until October though.
Guys, do yourself a favor and get one of Will's hawks. They cost so little compared to what you get. They are rough, nowhere near the prescision fit of an ATC or one of 2 Hawks offerings, but they cost 1/2 to 1/3 as much and they aren't shoddy crap made by child slaves in India or Pakistan.
Thanks for posting the pics Sean.
