I've been noticing these fine mother of pearl handled gents knives on the AZCK and Knifeart websites. They are heavier than William Henry because they have steel liners but I like that they have clips while mother of pearl William Henrys do not. Who owns one of these knives and how do you like it?

Knife House Hara is noted Japanese knifemkaker Koji Hara's production knife company. These are made in very limited numbers by skilled crafstmen under Koji's supervision. I doubt very much that you would be dissapointed in these knives. I checked both web sites, and was most impressed by the abalone insert knives for less than $250. That seems a small price to pay for an knife of outstanding quality.

Of course, a little more than twice as much buys you an airstep folder by Koji or one of his other gorgeous designs. These are Very collectable and make great gents carry folders. I know $500 seems like a lot of money to put in your pocket, but once you do, I doubt you will regret it.

Anthony, take the plunge and go custom Hara.

I chose between a pearl-handled Hara House folder and a WH T12-pearl last year. The WH T12-pearl won hands down for overall fit and finish, as the Hara had slight sloppiness in regard to scale material/liner matchup, not to mention that Phillips-head screws just aren't that attractive on a gent's folder. Just my .01.

Thanks for the info. I'm really considering these knives but I do have a custom on order also. Does anybody else have an opinoin on these knives?

I have handled one that a purveyor friend has for sale. The pearl is beautiful and the action is good. The pocket clip is not countersunk in any way and is held in place with one screw. The clip itself is very thin and fragile. It would last about 5 minutes clipped to a pocket before getting twisted, bent or completely knocked off.Until they improve or redesign the pocket clip, I'd stay with a William Henry.

Unless I hear something different, I might hold off getting a Hora House knife. If the clip is weak, I might as well get a William Henry and keep it in a pouch, furthermore, the titanium scales on WH's are lighter. Paracelsus, I'm sure a custom Koji Hora would be worth it, it's just that I already have another custom on the way.

Cool Anthony. Who is the maker and what style?

I am surprised to see so many folks trashing the Knife House Hara knives. I will admit never having handled one, but I have played with several of his custom folders. They were very well made knives and they seem to sell quickly at the two custom dealers you mentioned.

William Henry knives always looked good to me on the net, but I was very surprised at how small they are in the hand. My father's T10 is a very well made little knife, but is almost too small for my taste.

Oh well, there is never any shortage of great knives calling out to us. Waiting for that special knife is never a bad idea.

Paracelsus, I'm getting a Greg Lightfoot LCC. As you know, the custom LCC is much smaller than the Microtech version. It is due in June.
