Horizontal Carry?

My BC store finally got the ESEE order in and a friend and I have our RC6's on the way (do I need to learn a secret handshake or anything?).

Anybody have any experience with horizontal carry? No worries about losing the knife? It looks like it could be a comfortable way to pack the knife but until I get it I'm only guessing.

Thanks.

I have carried an Izula, ESEE 3, 4, and HEST horizontally, but I think the 6 would be a little big. Having said that, try it out, maybe something like a scout style (behind the back) would work.

I carry my Izula scout style. When I carry my -4, I pack it horizontally forward of my left hip. Both are comfortable. I haven't tried it with my -5, which is the biggest ESEE I have. Try it when you get it, and take pictures so the rest of us can learn, too.

I've tried carrying the 6 horizontally...all I can say is make sure you have a stiff belt! I ended up finding that tucking it inside the waistband at about a 45* angle worked out best. As an additional retention I looped some paracord through one of the eyelets, stuck an S-biner on the other end and clipped it to my belt loop. It has another advantage--I wore it like that at my son's baby shower at IHOP and no one noticed until I pulled it out to cut the cake! :p

I made some straps for my sheath to do such a thing.

I think it's easier to have a big knife scout carry - you can sit down, drive a car, wear a backpack, etc. without it interfering and it won't beat your leg up.

When I tried hip carry with the stock belt clip, I found it hard to draw my knife - where I normally wear it (on the hip, about the seam of the pants) my hand was at an awkward angle to release the knife (need to push with the thumb) - it was easier for me to do so with it horizontal, in the small of the back.

I was originally worried about retention, but the knife isn't going anywhere - I can always slide the tension lock up and keep it in place or attach a dummy cord or something.

I'll try it and take some pictures. My plan was "scout style" (new term for me) behind my back just below my hiking day pack. The pack ends just above my waist.

You can also take some paracor and make belt loops for horizontal carry which would be really secure. I would not recommend using the thin MOLLE clips for belt carry though. They deform too much with a thick belt and may malfunction. They were designed for thinner webbing. i like the rig above that Tardidt has. it looks pretty secure. Mike

+1 :) Carrying it on the back slightly angled is the best way to discretely carry.

I'll try my teklok to see if I can try angled carry. I just find after trying horizontal the handle sticks out to far on the ESEE-6 for me.
