Horizontal Pouches

I want a better horizontal pouch for my Greco Whisper folder. The one that comes with it (an EDC brand) is OK, but the velcro does not close positively such that when rubbed the wrong way, will open, spilling the knife.

I bought a Spec-Ops Supersheath http://www.specopsbrand.com/assets/product_html/prod_supersheath.html. It is very well made and the snap closure closes positiely. But, it's pouch is too shallow, and a narrow strap is all that goes over the top of the knife to hold it in, such that it can easily fall out by slipping around the narrow strap. It's really made for magazines rather than knives.

Next, I tried a Bench Made small soft pouch. No good. The pouch is advertised as being 5.00" D. I read this as meaning five inches deep. My Greco is less than 5" closed. The small BM pouch is actually just 5" long on the outside including all the seams. It doesn't even come close to accomodating my knife. Also, the velco patch is very small, not at all what I expected from Bench Made. Even if it was the right size, I wouldn't trust it with that chinsy closure.

I see Eagle Industries has a knife pouch http://www.eagleindustries.com/mainprod.asp?scv=0. Anybody have that, or have any other advice. Or should I just give up now?

This is what you need -- http://www.tadgear.com/x-treme gear/gear organizers main/tad-s1_sheath.htm

I just tried a Greco folder in mine: it fits perfectly, with about a half-inch of folder sticking up when the flap is opened, just enough to grab. The entire flap is velcro-lined, as is the corresponding entire surface of the sheath below it.

Besides that, the entire closed rig is just a rectangular black box on your belt, almost totally unobstrusive, next to nothing to snag or pick up gunk.

Very heavy-duty, well made, and cheap, besides.

Sean, the TAD sheath I linked will also hold the Buck/Strider (I just tried it!) but it is a longer knife than the Greco and sticks up a bit more.

I have another sheath I believe came with my fullsize MOD CQD. It is perfect for the Buck/Strider -- it's the right length, very heavy-duty, rugged material, and like the TAD, the flap and sheath facing the flap are totally velcro -- this is not popping open until you want it to. It actually fits the B/S better than the big MOD.

Unfortunately, there are no markings on it so I don't know who makes it or if it just comes with the MOD or if the man I bought it from put them together. I checked out the MOD website, but their replacement cordura sheath is not as good as the one I have.

I'm looking at the TAD's SOE FOLDER POUCH.
http://www.tadgear.com/x-treme gear/gear organizers main/folder_pouch.htm

It may be the one I'm looking for.

Problem is that TAD charges too much for international shipping. The shipping will cost me more than the pouch! That's crazy. They could have slip the pouch into an USPS Global Priority Envelope and that'll only cost me $4~9 for shipping!

S.O.E.'s site is not user-friendly and I can't seems to find any decent on-line store that carry this pouch....Sigh....

Anyway, you guys in US have all the luck and access to all these goodies! So far I've also ZERO luck finding any knife t-shirts (Strider, SOG, Gerber) that do normal international shipping over the net... Sigh...

I've good feedback on ebay (name: seanhowe) but all on-line merchants does not want to accept my credit card payments and paypal. Irritate and bother me a lot.

Lenny Magill makes a "horizontal concealment sheath" that, in certain sizes, is also designed to hold spare magazines.

I found the one pictured to work well with the Benchmade AFCK I used for testing (because that was the knife used on the tape in which the sheath was mentioned).

Lenny has several sites all linked to the same inventory system, such as http://www.gunvideo.com and http://www.allknife.com .

What I do is once I find a decent pouch I put a snap where I want it. I bought a snap set from Tandy Leather so if anything that normally has only velcro, I can put a snap wherever I need it.

I found the Blackie Collins cordura sheath with velcro closure at Galyan's for $3.00 Then I went to a local shoe repair shop to add a snap for another $3.00. Works great & was cheap.

I'am looking for one for my strider sng. will that soe pouch still work ? it says it fits the ar and gb.

Let me just second Esav's recommendation for the TAD S1 sheath. I've been carrying my multi-tools in S1 sheaths everyday for a couple of years now and they are holding up perfectly. They are simple, effective, inconspicuous, and tough.

When I have something too large for an S1 I use Eagle's knife sheath. They are just a little longer and a good bit wider. Even my huge Victorinox SwissChamp XLT fits in an Eagle. That sheath has also stood up after several years of constant use.

One other note: the cloth sheaths made from quilted-looking material, like the ones Benchmade and a lot of other manufacturers sell, come apart on me after just a few months.

Good luck!
