I want to show a couple of pictures of a horizontal sheath I made for my Buck Alaskan 192 and see what folks think about it. It works very well and allows access to the knife when one is sitting down, like on a boat seat.

that looks good , is it made for a really wide belt or a drop style ?

Hey Buckman. I made it to fit a heavy 1 1/2 inch gun belt that I wear all the time. Thanks for the good words. I am sort of proud of it. I also have one I made for a Cold Steer Master Hunter. I have several others in the works. They are cut out and just need dyeing and sewing up.

The belt loop that you see is sewed so that the knife actually rides above the belt line. At least on me that seems to be the most comfortable. And when I have it on I completely forget about it.

Looks great.
I was thinking the knife would ride below the belt line.
got a pic?
If it rides low, I like that and would consider trying to hobble one myself

yes i think that would work pretty good although i think i would prefer under the belt
but here in canada i would be afraid to wear it like that as they would probably call that concealed
and you should be proud that is good work

It can easily be made to ride below the belt. Just sew the loop above it instead of below it. I will post some more pictures tomorrow or the next day. It is too late tonight. I made the first one for a friend who has a smaller Buck fixed blade that he uses to fish with all the time. I made it where it rode below the belt and he fussed about that and wanted to know if I could make it ride higher. But it can be made either way. And as long as the blade length is legal, 5 1/2 inches in Texas, it is legal to carry, concealed or not.

Very nice looking sheath!!!

I like the idea of a horizontal carry sheath. I've been thinking about one for my 119 or 120. I'd prefer the sheath and belt loops be on the same plane, and just loops, not the long channel like Nolan prefers. But that's just personal preference...

About the only thing I can see on Nolans that I would change is the thumbbreak...As on the vertical Buck sheath, it is backwards, to my way of thinking/carrying...I prefer to break the snap with my thumb, while drawing the knife...(but that's just my way)...

I agree Trax!! I also prefer the knife to be on the same plane as the belt, and the thumb opening on top. But that is a nice looking sheath! Very good idea for a vanguard... Joe??? Joe??? I would probably carry mine more then!!

I should mention that I wear this sheath on the left side like a cross draw pistol holster. When I draw it my fingers go under the flap and open it upward. Then they slip inside the lower flap and wrap around the knife, starting to draw it out.

The tunnel is to stabilize the knife and keep it horizontal. Loops would be more trouble to attach to the sheath. Because of how the sheath is sewed together it would be quite a bit more difficult to make the knife ride at the belt level. Anyway, I think this sheath, for me, is just about as perfect as I can get it.

Yeah...what the Bird said.
Word.

Here is the back side of the sheath showing how the belt tunnel is attached.
