I've done some digging, and can't find a cut and dry answer. Are horizontal sheaths legal in Illinois? If so, anyone recommend a good maker/manufacturer?

Edit: I live in southern Illinois, not Chicago. Feel the need to clarify that

I cannot imagine that even in a Bizarro-world state like Illinois whether a knife sheath is vertical or horizontal will have any effect on the legality of the knife within it unless the knife is concealed.

You didn't state what materials, but if it's kydex, then one by Godspeed Tactical might be for you. With a G-clip or a TekLok, with kydex and with some leather sheaths, you can wear horizontal or vertical....

Well that's my question. Wearing it horizontally
My work shirt would cover it. So does that deem it concealed

Yes. If it is concealed, then you should consider it concealed. I wear my Izula with the handle down, blade up at the front of my belt. It isn't concealed, because a tiny bit of handle sticks out, but neither does it startle anyone around me.

If you won't be able to see it I wouldn't worry. Its concealed, but are you getting in trouble with the cops everyday? If your legal you will have no problems. I feel for you guys who have to worry about this. Where I live no one cares unless its like a 8" blade. The best thing to do is ask a cop directly, like at sporting events or the store. That's what I've done and get straight answers.

The problem with that; I've asked a state cop in my town about carrying
My 45 in my truck. He said " keep the gun in one compartment, clip in another. Loaded clip is fine." The I get pulled over for going 6 over the speed limit and I tell the guy first thing I have a weapon in the car, he looked, determined I was transporting illegally. This has been some time ago, but the funny thing about the law is that's its all subjective.

I carry my fixed blade at work, and if I carry vertically, it catches on everything and makes for an uncomfortable ride in a vehicle

I like the Dozier fixed blades with his kydex horizontal sheath.

I have no idea about legalities in IL.

In my state, it is illegal to carry a loaded gun inside your car unless you have a carry permit. But if you carry an unloaded gun inside you vehicle, then the gun and ammunition must be seperated and not easily obtainable.

I can't imagine horizontal carry being illegal. As for work carry, depending on what you do, you can probably slide by a bit easier. Are you Local 702? Local 9 here.
