As much as I enjoy looking at my horn khukuris, I've decided to stay with wood handles only. They're ever so purty, but there's no more room at the inn. I know they'll find new homes eventually, even if they get hawked at a gun show, but I'll list them here again. They've never been tested or used in any way, and I keep Hooflex on them.

Modern Afghan - from the original batch, it seems to glide thru the air. ($90)

Balance - a little longer than a Mini Jungle, but with more beautiful curves, angled like the Afghan, scabbard frog like SN1. ($45)

Zebra SN1 - very unusual striped handle. ($70)

Zebra WWII - the mate to the Zebra SN1. ($80)

Will do the whole caboodle for $275, throw in my tub of Hooflex, and I'll ship to lower 48.

All of these are hand-picked and the start of a collection that almost got off the ground. The handle rings are all in what I think is the best location, and I paid a good bit more for each.:( The Zebras have lovely handles, and are the only ones Craig has ever had. The SN1 is pictured in the GH Photo Khukuri Gallery.

Just post replies here if you have questions or are interested.

I've got this hankering after the Afghan, but the good 'ol KPF won't be satisfactorilly resuscitated before August 2002. And the shipping costs are horrendous! :(

do you have any pix Lt.Dan I'm a new collector and am much interested

Mott:

Sorry, I wish I was set up to do pics. But if you go to the online GH Khukuri Catalog you'll see the Afghan, SN1 and WWII. The "Zebra" handles are an unusual striped horn, and my SN1 is actually pictured, if you'll go by the above directions. Somewhere in the old threads is a picture of the Balance, which will actually balance on your (carefully protected) finger.

Dan,
I have to say, I'm intrigued by the balance khukuri. Got any more specifics on that one? How big is it compared to the SN1?

Patrick

Patrick,

As I recall, the Balance is about 14" and as many ounces. The handle size is more on the smaller side of medium, so I wouldn't advise it as a user for big hands. It's lighter and not as long as the SN1, and is quick, even with the Afghan angle. The blade itself is more curvy, inlaid, and very pretty. Let me know if you can't find the thread (about 1.5 years ago) that shows it. It's an early GH model, with the "Go Ho" characters engraved, instead of pounded in. There's a pic of the exact same thing on the HI site somewhere. It's one in the same, as all were made by Lalit and TB's folks then. I think the Balance and Afghan look really neat side by side.

Dan

Hmmm. I really shouldn't since I just ordered a new tomahawk .... All right, I'll take the balance K. Email me (off forum) and we'll hash out the details!

Pat

Dan! I am very interested in either the Zebra SN1 or the Zebra WWII. Which in your opinion is the nicer knife? The handle of the SN1 pictured at GH is beautiful!

Please email me with details!

Lt Dan...Whats going on with all the selling of Kukris? I hope you are not leaving us behind in the Kukri Forum. A very Concerned Pipey!

Hi there, Pipey! Just thought I'd repost all the horn khukuris again, but this time with more painful numbers. Man, the price a guy has to pay to liven things up a little around here is pretty high. Actually, my interest in varminting somewhat limits a few other things, and I need the secure space. So I've decided not to collect anything anymore, and just be a user of wood handled khukuris. And I haven't quit khukuris, either; I just can't do it all. It's a bit tough, as I've been very careful to get real nice stuff over the years. I remember sending back the first Afghan I got for this one to get the most comfortable handle. Anyway, this just a bump in the road. Your e-mail was appreciated. I owe you and Johan some good notes, and I aim to take care of business properly as soon as I'm able. Thanks for asking.

Patrick and Guy, check your e-mail!

Later,

Dan

Mott:

It's just a very fine khukuri, with an excellent handle that has a little figure in it. It's just too pretty for me to use, and will go with the other horn models. And it looks just like the one pictured in the online GH catalog.

Hope I answered your question.

Dan

Yup, pardner Dan, guess yuh're right. Reckon yuh ought t' mosey along to thet smoke-box of yourn an' let me have a few signals afore next winter sets in in this part of th' woods.

Mott:

The only "standard" khukuri of the bunch is the Afghan, which was even hand-picked from the very first batch. It's balance and handle design are a cut above the one initially sent and returned.

The Balance is spoken for, unusual in every way, and its sheath also has the military frog.

The uniqueness of the Zebras is mentioned above, and they are simply gorgeous.

I'm not crying over the keyboard about my situation, but maybe you're unaware that these are NEW and UNUSED. Each is going for less than I paid, and ALL are choice pieces. You might not know that I've already posted these once at a loss, and are unaware this time I'm taking an even bigger hit....to the tune of $80 - $90 total, and that's not even including at least $35 paid UPS shipping.

IMVHO this is a GREAT deal. And don't be confused by the SN1 and WWII catalog prices, because the Zebras each cost me $30 extra due to the unusual horn. I think the prices have hit rock bottom. Anything less is gouging myself, and I'm just not into self mutilation, even with a beautiful khukuri.

And something else I didn't mention is that most of these will go with nice zippered nylon cases. Sorry if you're still disappointed with these prices. Come to think of it, maybe they're even TOO low.

Be well....Dan
