Horn handle care

Hello,
use lanolin (wool-wax from sheep). there are some products that contain this stuff like Hooflex (for horses - smells a little strange) or products for nursing mums (nipple care) - or ask in the pharmacy for pure lanolin, apply and let it dry in warm environment, then polish.

Hope this helps

I know that a lot of people use hoof flex.

Also, if you don't have a tack shop around, you can get mineral oil at a pharmacy and it works well enough and doesn't have any real negatives for horn, steel or wood (it can stain and soften leather) although there are other products out there that may work better or last longer but may be more expensive.

Mineral oil is also food grade if you care about that and odor free.

The only problem I think with treating the horn handle is I think it somewhat softens the horn.

I had several I treated the handles on, then when I used them they cracked along the back of the handle near the bolster like where the force of hitting the wood would push the tang back against the handle there.

Thanks everyone for the info i will get some HOOFLEX and give it a try when my new HI WW-2 gets here:D THANKS

Keratex certainly doesn't.
After a thorough treatment with that has dried (clean and degrease the handle's surface beforehand), I finish it off with a coat of Tru-oil.
