horn handle strength

I have a Kumar Karda with a nicely engraved horn handle (by Amtrack). The blade has taken a nice edge, and it is thick and strong. The blade looks like it could handle some heavy kitchen work....like splitting lobster tails, or similar tasks.

Is the handle likely to hold up? I ask, because of the carving. If the horn is thin, and it has grooves in it, I wondered if this would compromise the strength of the grip. I like the knife and do not want to "butcher" it. It has the sort of shape that would make it useful for heavy cutting in the kitchen, but not if this will ruin it. It looks too good for that.

Has anyone used one of these knives?

I think it'll hold so go ahead and use it. If it doesn't send the parts back and I'll ship a new one.

Bill - I think that I'll try the knife out on our annual New Year's lobster tails. I think that it will do a super job on splitting the shells.
I do not plan to split any deer with this one. The Kumar karda will get use on special occasions.
