I went down to the local Quickie Mart and couldn't find any lanolin or hooflex. Is lanolin available in drugstores? I know it's in some hand creams and such, is this ok for horn handles?

Also, the HI guarantee says that linseed oil would work sorta ok on horn. How well does this work?

RayC who is off visiting parents right now has used boiled linseed oil on horn handles for almost 15 years with pretty decent results.

I've used the Corona Hoof Ointment (50% Lanolin) on my remaining horn handle (14" Sirupati), and it looks nice. When the WWII came, I gave it a coat and started playing with the blade. Yesterday and last night, I gave it a couple of heavy coats of the Fiebing's Hoof Dressing (heavy on mineral oil). Both times, after each coat had dried, there was nothing to wipe off- no residue. Each time, the horn got just a little darker - a deeper black, if that makes any sense. The grey grain is still there, and not any different, except the background is darker. I'm trying to decide if the dressing evaporated or soaked in - I didn't apply it lightly, like a wood treatment. I used a twist of old T-Shirt tail, dipped in the neck of the can, and smeared the stuff on. If it gets progressively darker with each coat, at 5-6 coats it may start absorbing small stuff off my bench. A "Black Hole" Khukuri??
