Guys like John Horrigan piss me off :) not only can they do things like be a Mastersmith but how about

engrave or do gold inlay or sculpt and carve and he can also do great leather work. Hell this guy can even paint

I don't think there is much John can't do. But what really gets me is that he is a hell of an outdoorsman and a bad ass with a bow something I hold near and dear

All kidding aside John is a great guy and to meet him you would never know that he has all these talents

He's a soft spoken gentleman that I'd be proud to ride the river with any day

Just wanted to post some pics of his work and some pics of a recent trip to Africa and a nice elk

That kudu is huge--fantastic trophy with a bow!

I knew John Horrigan was an artist, but did not know he could paint--that portrait has remarkable life, especially in the eyes. Thanks for posting that, Joe.

I'm a huge Horrigan fan, also. Kevin Jones posted the photo below before the Arkansas Show last winter, which I snagged (the photo--not the knife!) to use as an example in discussing an order with John (not sure who deserves the photo credit). It's in his hunting bowie style--to me absolutely mesmerizing:

Will I have seen that knife in the flesh

Truly a wonderful blade

Johns on his way your way He drew an elk tag near unit 34

Great area I have been there

Joe,

THANKS for posting these pics. Looks like John had quite the adventure in Africa. And I'm in agreement with you, guys like John, who can do EVERYTHING well, cause me frequent insecurity :D

Will, thanks for posting that hunter Bowie -- it happens to be one of my very favorite knives in all the world, and I'm fortunate (VERY fortunate) to be the steward of this beauty. John's Hunter Bowie is one of the finest looking knife designs, IMO, in the knife world. I've listed after one for years after running across his website some time ago. I've since had the pleasure of spending time in his shop, and this guy is SERIOUS about knife making. (incredible sheaths, awesome engraving, killer laminates, etc...)

On a personal level, John is a true gentleman, gracious and generous. I feel blessed to be able to call him friend.

He'll be on the mountain at dawn Friday, then--some monster bulls in there and on the Mescalero Apache Reservation next door. I wish him luck.

Glad to know who owns that beauty, Eli, and I agree--his hunter bowie is an all-time classic. Congratulations!

Amazing work and it is nice to see someone actually use their natural gifts rather than waste them away!!!!

Inspiring work

GREAT pics Joe. Thanks for posting them. I have met John and totally agree....he is a VERY talented man and a pleasure to spend time with.

If you're seeing this John...GREAT looking trophies, knife AND painting. I didn't know you were a painter either! Can't say i'm surprised though. Hope to catch up with you next year at Blade.

Peter

I regrettably have no translation of the words but these two colors on the blade give a magnificent result...

"Somptueux, Magnifique".....

I agree as well. John is an all around great guy and one of the most talented folks I know. He certainly knows how to live life to the fullest. Thanks for posting this up.

Guys. Thank you for kind words. If you love what you do, it's not hard to put you heart and soul in to it. I just got back in from New Mexico, the young man I was guiding took a hell of a good bull with his bow. I always like those mountains, it's as close to God and my Brother I can get. It seems to always renew my inner strenght if you guys know what I mean. I've got another 11 1/2 months before heading back. Joe thank you for posting the pics, I'm looking forward to the day I can come up and hunt with the stick bow. I've started hitting the orders hot and heavy the last two days, as a part time maker it's a challenge to balance the orders and try to finish the Higher end pieces for the shows. Thanks again.

I totally agree. John is a great maker and person! At BLADE we always share talk and a few tears about his brother and my son. Two HEROES!!!! He helped turn me on to Paul Long. And John, Come to Ohio and share a stick bow hunt for some BIG Ohio whitetails!
GOD BLESS!!!
Michael

Mike

I might holler at you some time on the stick bow. I hunt about as much as time allows me to. As Joe Kious said to me one time, I was put on this Earth to kill stuff.
