I hope Dave doesn't mind I called this a Rubber Bucky.

So I finially got my user 110 in the mail today. There was so much blood and deer hair inside it wouldn't hardly open and close (I'm OK with that as it was only a $15 knife). So I popped the rocker rivet out; pulled the rocker and spring to clean and went to digging all the rest of the goop out. What a mess, but got it clean and ready for the horse mat that Mike Wallace gave me to try out.

Its not pretty but it is slighly softer than the Buck rubber Dave is using and damn grippy. I am actually impressed with that grip. I think it will be ideal for slippery work.

Nice work man, looks like you got an excellent fit between the bolsters.
Glad the mat worked out for you. What's your next one gonna be.... :D

Pace yourself , your gonna burn out ........
300$s

What about trying a HM 300, one of us ought to be able to dig you up a 301 or 313.....

That looks interesting and could see where there would be situations where those scales would be an advantage.

I have an idea but what is horse matt? I didn't grow up a city slicker but some farm and ranch technology has passed me by in later years.

Mike...I've got a standard 110 that Chuck Buck signed laid out but I've also got out my old pre-86 500 (birch) out too. I've got some buffalo horn I'd like to try out on the 500. Anyone know if that scale is glued? As to the signed 110, CJ voted for the Ironwood I had laid out in the original line up for the BP110, so I'm going with that I think. May not do anymore for a bit.

Pace yourself , your gonna burn out ........
Not quite there yet but I'm about to switch gears and start playing with my reloader and work up a few boxes.

Who's first on the pass around list?
I do think the horse mat is different enough to be of interest for those that liked Dave's Rubber Bucky. If there is interest, I'll send it around, just let me know.

humm rubber bucky is ok with me
but horse bucky is jest as funny sounding or better!
as far as working ... wow you are knocking them out
yer better half must not have your to do list ready!

BigJohn, Here is a link to the manufacturer of the the mat that Flatlander used: Red Barn Horse Stall Mat

Flatlander, I've used epoxy to hold down buffalo horn scales. You just need to flatten and rough up (80-100 grit) the side that goes against the liner. One thing I learned the hard way, if you're using "Honey Horn", the lighter, blonde/brown colored horn, you can overheat it and turn it black. Using the belt grinder will probably get it too hot, you may want to try and sand the scales by hand. The first time I used Honey Horn for scales I scorched it and it came out looking like a Buck black phenolic handle. Not a bad look, but not what I was shooting for....:(

Mike has been nice enough send me some more horse mat. I'll be trying another Horse Bucky as Dave calls it. This time with a NS frame I think. Thanks Mike:thumbup::thumbup::thumbup:

That really did turn out nice! I hope you'll share pictures of the one in NS. The contrast should look striking.

Central Tractor (or Tractor Supply, or whatever they're calling it this week) had a stack of those horse mats outside on a pallet last week...looked about 4' x 6' or so...didn't catch the price...about a lifetime supply of knife scales, I reckon... :D
