Finished this one up today. OAL is 15", blade is 10". The handle is mopane with leather spacers and mild steel butt and guard.

Now to make a sheath!

Sorry the pics aren't better, it was late when I finished and I had to take them indoors.

Ah Mr. Montgomery with the sharp eye! Yessir, because I did a poor job with the fit, there.

But, the tang is quite hefty. I tested the blade today with some strong-arm chopping, and it held up very well.

But, that won't happen in the future.

Very nice knife, but as Keith pointed it is a pitty the fit of the blade against the guard is not right!!Surely,as you pointed it will be right on the next!!
Nice job!!

FWIW - that "gap" isn't all that unusual on period frontier knives, particularly blacksmith and farm made ones. A different aesthetic than our modern view point of fit and finish and one I quite enjoy for the difference....and IMO this piece fits well into the frontier period style playbook...
Overall I like this piece and Andy a simple period sheath would be fitting - if you would like suggestions let me know.....chuck@wrtcleather.com
