Horse gets stabbed at BP station
Police are looking for leads in the incident that left the animal with a 6-inch cut in its chest.

A Jacksonville woman, whose regular horseback rides through the city's developed Regency section attract stares, is shocked that someone stabbed her 7-year-old half-thoroughbred in the chest Sunday.
It happened about 4:45 p.m. when Lois Baden left her horse, Ryan, tied to a tree in front of the BP station at 9700 Atlantic Blvd., police said.
Baden, 25, came outside to find blood on the ground under the horse and saw a man get into what looked like a Mitsubishi before peeling out of the parking lot. The horse suffered a 6-inch deep cut and had trouble breathing after the attack, police said, after a vet examined the animal.
The wound appears inflicted with an L-shaped piece of metal, said Jesse Baird, 54, who owns the stable near Regency where Baden boards the horse.
Baden said Monday evening the horse's condition was "very bad," and she was rushing him to the vet. "He's basically about to bleed to death," she said.
Baden and her horse are minor celebrities around the Regency area, where people take photos and children ask for rides when they spot the pair on their regular walks through the well-trafficked area. She had nursed Ryan back to health after the former racehorse hurt his knee in competition and had to learn to walk again.
Without license plate information on the car Baden saw driving away or any other witnesses, police have no leads. They don't even know if the car's driver was connected to the animal cruelty, which is a felony. They're encouraging tipsters to call them at (904) 630-0500.
"I'd love to put somebody in jail for something like this. It's just ridiculous," said Sgt. Rick Dowling.
