Horseman blade/handle length

I just got a NIB horseman from a forum member, and I'm a little surprised by how short the blade looks in the handle when it's closed. The blade seems to be the right length (measures a little over 3.5") but there's a good half inch of handle past the tip of the blade when it is closed. Is this normal?

My large A100 has a similar handle length, but the blade looks like it's at least an eighth, maybe a quarter, inch longer, and when closed goes much closer to the end of the handle. Emerson's website says the A100 blade is 3.6", but mine measures pretty close to 3.75".

I just feel like the horseman's blade seems a little small for the grip size.

Partially how it's designed, the blade needs to be out of the lanyard hole opening at the back of the handle, so it needs to be shorter than that spot. Emerson's are also typically generous with the handle. It sounds like it is as it should be

It is normal. Thats's the way it's designed. The full size CQC-8 is the same. I typically like some extra handle, as I find it more comfortable.

Ok, thanks for the reassurance guys. I'll be honest, I thought I was gonna totally love this knife right out of the box, but the grip to blade size is throwing me a bit, making it feel and look funny in the hand. It's not that I'm disliking it, but it's somewhere in the middle for me right now. I think I'll give it a few weeks to see if it grows on me.

One of the idiosyncrasies of owning an Emerson. I also prefer a generous handle and place that ahead of the all to often worshiped blade to handle ratio.

The CQC-8 family is my favorite. I just wish they were V-grind and V-edge.

Yeah, I'm not hugely concerned about it generally, but there's a certain proportion that my eye is used to seeing in certain types/sizes of knives, and I thought it looked weird. The handle is definitely comfortable and secure, reminds me a bit of a hogue grip.

I also wish they were v-edge. I plan to eventually resharpen all my emersons to a v-edge.

I agree with what the guys have said above. I also love the 8 series, the handles are extremely comfortable plus you can use it as an impact tool when closed, here a pic of a Horseman next to a regular 8:

Good choice, by the way, congrats on your new blade!
