Picked up this great Hortonized NMFBM from Knife Hunter, and promptly hit a brick while pruning back a little fig tree. Good thing I can sharpen!

This is after I lightly resharpened it. I'm not interested in grinding out all of the ding. It'll happen as I use and sharpen it more.

Looks like a chip but It may just be pushed in. Don't want to get into THAT debate!

I love this knife. It bites deep into wood, and it's a little lighter that the CG NMFBM I owned previously.
 
aw man... bummer. Great looking knife, I doubt the damage will have any effect on the chopping ability of that bad boy.
 
Nice Knife maine, even better with the Platinum Edge. Too bad about the ding. You use them enough. Your bound to hit something you didn't want to hit, sooner or later.

I agree completely. I was going to put up a couple users for sale tonight. I talked myself out of it by saying "nobody is going to want them with all those scratches."

Great looking NMFBM. I have eyed that beauty in Knife Hunter's sale threads before. Love it.
 
I almost snagged that one from T also, for a user maybe a couple of battle scars added. But its still a great lookin NMFBM and she's a user, Congrats Tom. :thumbup:
But are you sure your not trying to get in the 230 club. :D

That's not a chip, but it's not a dent either IMO, it almost looks like a tear from a pretty thinned edge. INFI holds up well, better than any steel i've seen, but when thinned out like that edge is, when it encounters something stupid like a brick, it dents pretty bad, but i've had it actually tear, not chip. Just my two cents.
 
I agree ... battle scars add personality to a blade. Helps you remember what you have been through.

Everytime I have done that I got a sick feeling in my gut.... I am like God I just got this thing and already dinged the edge.... :o

I have hit concrete and rocks and it will tear up an edge in a hurry. :D
 
Using them means things like this will happen .... but you've done a good job at sorting it out .... I have had numerous dinks like that over the years .... I usually carry a cut down "steel" and Eze Lap diamond hone with me on a belt pouch to sort these temporarily when out in the field .... they can happen that easily .... then I do as you have done and re-do the edge as best I can allowing for not wanting to waist a lot of metal in the repair.

Your NMFBM will still be as good at chopping as it always was ....:thumbup:

After a few edges being applied and the edge being frequently stropped the hardness or toughness of the Infi seems to improve .... and you only find that out by using them .... I think the heat from the high speed factory grind makes the initial edge a little bit more brittle .... after a year of use I used mine to take down an old blackberry enclosure ....

It took all of the afternoon and into the evening ....

As it got dark I hit a nail in some of the wood I was putting on the fire .... the knife cut through the nail but it did leave a slight dink in the blade ....

I just did as you have done and a year on from there the dink is now gone ....if you use them enough they "heal" themselves just through re-sharpening ....:D:thumbup:

My NMFBM has a similar ding from finding a rock the hard way, but it does not effect function at all.

Cliff Stamp, and others here on BFC, have noted this phenomenon on many occasions, with different steels, from different knife companies.

I just sent it off to Mashed Cat for a sheath, but I'll beat the bejeepers out of it when I get it back!!
