What's the MSRP Kristi? Or is that not determined yet?

Gotta know how much cash to save up.

Thanks Kristi.

Isn't that steel highly thought of in S/F, military and Police knives etc. in Europe. I've heard good things about that steel. Kind of a tougher VG10. This should be a nice knife. JoeL.

WOW these should be very impressive. Can't hardly wait for the pics.

What of the already known steels is N690Co similar to? Is there any way someone could find its composition?

The loooooooong handles, is that so we can saw them down to fit?:p

Long handles=good. This is going to get expensive...I need one of each. I bet leatherman could do a nice piggy back sheath for the little one and the big one.

Where can I sign up. Oh W-O-W!!!!! Hope the sheaths are decent and the price is not too steep.

There is also the, hopefully soon to be released, smaller Perrin design.

Bohler N690 is a 440 stainless steel modified with cobalt. It's quite similar to Hitachi VG-10. Copying and tweaking steel compositions is a common practice in the industry anyways (154CM vs. ATS-34, ZDP-189 vs. Cowry X, etc.). Performance-wise they would be hard to distinguish at a given hardness and with proper heat treating and QC.

N690Co

C: 1.07%
Cr: 17.00%
Co: 1.50%
Mn: 0.40%
Mo: 1.10%
Si: 0.40%
V: 0.10%

VG-10

C: 0.95-1.05%
Cr: 14.50-15.50%
Co: 1.30-1.50%
Mn: 0.50%
Mo: 0.90-1.20%
Si: 0.60%
V: 0.10-0.30%

Kristi, did Spyderco pick these up after they were dropped by Ontario? Fox was going to make them for Ontario, anyways. I know N690Co is their steel of choice, yet I can't help but wish for 3V :) .

I think that will prove to be a mistake for Ontario. Spyderco's gain though. These will probably be the best selling Spyderco fixed blade to date.

Thanks for the link shootist. They are some amazing looking blades as I had hoped.

No prob. It beats paying $7 for Tactical Knives. Its also instant gratification.

Thank you for the information. BTW, I second that about 3V!

It is my understanding that Spyderco will be coming out with a camp knife and a chopper designed by Mr. Schemp and both blades will be 3V
