I'm a knife knut and have been interested in having a get together here in Houston. I have no idea what I'm doing so I thought I would get some feedback here before I go hog wild.

Here's what I think so far.

1. Find a local restaurant that is knife friendly with a private meeting room so we can show and play with our toys.
2. Schedule for a Saturday around lunchtime so everyone can share a meal and the restaurant gets some added business they would not normally get.
3. Open up the meeting here on the forum and see how many people will come.
4. Possibly hold a GAW at the event to spark some interest and attendance (I would spring for a knife to GAW just to get the first one started).
5. Allow members to bring their knives and related gear and buy, sell, trade, fondle, drool, etc.

I need help beyond here. What am I missing?

I also thought of hosting the same type gathering at my deer lease just North of Houston. Attendees could bring their knives and there is plenty of logs, trees, brush etc. to chop, cut, test, etc. Even take some nice pictures in an outdoor setting if you're city bound and have no place to go.
The issue there would be making sure we have food and drinks for everyone (or does everyone bring a lunch and drinks on their own?)
My lease is private so we have a lot of room to do as we see fit. I have a covered concrete landing at my campsite and bbq pits, etc.

Maybe I host the in town gathering and bring it up then? I know alot of my customers here locally do not have access to the woods other than the National Forest which is quite a distance from Houston. I'm assuming that would be the case with a lot of knife owners, plus, those who may own larger blades but are hestitant to carry them out into public lands.

I look forward to the feedback.

Kind of interesting. I might be in but I travel a lot so my available dates might be iffy.

On another subject, what is the deer camp availability for having a computer shoot? It's exactly what it says:

There is definitely room to shoot as well. Lots of questions come up when guns get involved. I see that as being something down the road depending on how the get together shapes up over time.

Good answer. A large degree of caution is needed when considering people shooting guns. When we do a computer shoot, it is strictly no alcohol, military rules for range officer and shoot/cease fire.

Sounds fun, I'd like to get a Houston Hammer-in or similar. Are there any Houston area builders that would facilitate a builder day for noobs?
