hot kydex and temper/heat problems?

I recently began sheath making, and laying kydex (at about 315f) onto my blades, and the blades to get hot. Is there any chance this will change the treatment the manufacturer puts on the blade?

None whatsoever. Most blades require tempering at around 400 degrees for an hour or so. The minute or so the kydex will be in contact with your knife won't hurt it at all.

I only heat my kydex up to 250-275 and it does just fine. I had read in a couple of different locations that heating kydex above 300 degrees actually was not good due to it releasing some toxic gases. Can't verify that but have found that I didn't need the higher temps.

Wow. I have a heat lamp, like you would put in a reptile aquarium, and I used that to tweak a few kydex pieces I have and it worked fine although it did take 10 minutes or so to get the kydex warm enough...and it was fairly localized. I always was under the impression kydex gets soft around 180-200*F

i begain at 220 and was not getting much love

I will try 250-275 next time and see from there.. thanks guys
