Is it possible to adversly effect the temper of your blade while molding the hot concealex(400 degrees)around the knife and not removing it until it cools?approx 4 min.
I know some steels can go to higher temps before temper is effected.
BTW,The blade in question is BG-42,but even curious about some of the lower temp tool
steels.
Thanks,John

Hey...I don't know much on the topic (though I best start learning), but here's my take.

To further soften a temper even one or two degrees on the Rockwell C scale, I would think that temperatures of 300-400 are adequate, but it would take anywhere from half hour to 2 hours. I cannot be sure on this since it's not what I study, but it's what I gather.

However, I do think that even though it does get that hot, for such a short period of time it probably has no noticeable adverse effects. I would be more concerned about the handle materials and stuff.

I could be wrong, and I'd like to see another more educated response than my own.
