A couple of forumites wanted to see more of my different work soooo. This weekend is my last show of the year :D:D:D. Here is some of the stuff I've been making. A hiking/hunting bag, wild Turkey feather smudge fan, and couple of neckers and sheaths, a fillet and sheath and 4 CS hawks cleaned up and sheaths. The button and beads on the hunting bag are Mammoth ivory.

Best regards

Robin

I'm glad you posted some of your exquisite work for all of us to view. The natural setting was a nice touch. The colors are deep and rich and work well with the bone and antler. You made my day, Robin

Hi John
The area I live in is right on the Canadian shield and is covered in Lichen and beautiful larger scenery. The rock I use for pictures is right outside my door but alas, about to be under 4 feet of snow ;'''-((
I recently got a huge stash of amazing antler and a small stash of scrap Mammoth ivory so have been inspired to make knives using the new goodies. Thanks for your comments.

Hi there Edwood
I spent many years in the antiques business, my knives reflect that interest. I try to make them look like your Grand dad owned them and has passed them on in well cared for condition :D.
We have had one snowfall so far it didn't last long though. I was kinda thinking that Mexico would be good for the winter. Thanks for your comments.

I really like the way the handle turned out on the fillet knife, It's one of those strange pieces of Stag that just fits the hand perfectly.

WOW, those are beautiful!! I love that classic look!

Can I ask, what color/brand are you using to get that rich reddish color on your hafts? I've tried out several wood stains trying to get that color, but without much luck.

Thanks Bry fry and Pullrich.

BF, I use Fiebings leather dye for almost everything, I love the stuff. The redish colour on the trail hawk is the medium brown spirit dye, the dark brown is Dark brown oil dye on the frontier and pipe hawks and the Norse hawk is a strange mix of burgundy and medium brown spirit dyes. All but the trail hawk have a couple of coats of linseed oil as well. I use Fiebings for bone, antler, wood and leather, I add it to clear wax for finishes, it's perfect for matching sheaths to handles on both knives and hawks. You can get it at Tandys.

Yeah, your stuff turned out great! I tried using some "oxe blood" colored leather dye on one of my hafts ....did not work at all. Just turned the wood pink, and rubs off all over anything that touches it!

haha ...I'll have to check out Fiebings next time!

Bryfry
The spirit dye rubs off a lot more than the oil dye but if you sand and do a few coats of linseed oil and the wax it will be good. I haven't had problems with Fiebings on wood as far as weird colours go, on bone and antler you have to test it first. I've had bone and antler turn really nasty colours after it dries and soaks in. I'm going to build a vacume bottle for dying bone and antler, then it pretty much saturates the material.

Robin
