Hot rolled 1095 vs.Cold Rolled 1095

hey Guys
If any of you could tell the difference between cold rolled and hot rolled 1095 i would really appreciate it. Admiral steel CO. sells both and i was wondering if there would be a difference in how they would perform, grind or heat treat.
thanks
Luke

Cold rolled is cleaner Hot rolled has a "bark"n it that has to be removed. So if you are going to forge it I would get the hot rolled, it is cheaper and if you are going to do stock removal I would get the cold rolled.

I dont know this personally, but I was told that cold rolled steel has residual stresses in it that tend to make it warp in heat treat. If anybody has more info on this I would be interested to read it.

We used to turn some hot rolled stock in one of the machine shops I worked at. It wasn't 1095, but from what I understand most hot rolled steels can have imperfections and cracks that go deeper than a skim cut will remove. We turned All of the h/r stock at least 1/4".
Dr.Lathe or another one of the shop hands may be able to answer this better than me. I would be carful with hot rolled stock, especially if I was just starting out.
