Hot Rolled 1095

Good morning! I ended up with some hot rolled 1095 bar stock. The steel isn’t annealed, but it’s still soft enough to drill through with a sharp bit. Would the heat treat process be the same as if it were annealed, or would I need to run it through some grain refinement cycles first?

Are you forging it or doing stock removal?

Short answer, it should already be fine grained. Just normalize and harden.

Stock removal! I am used to using annealed bar stock and just wanted to be sure about the heat treat. Thanks!
