I am finally going to bite the bullet and get set up to do hot salt heat treating. I already use low temp salt to quench and temper . I thought I'd check around and see what others are using ,to help decide the best setup for me. I mainly use carbon steel damascus and the blades range from 2"-6". Any advice, opinions, and tips would be much appreciated. Regards from the Great White North.

Hi Don, I don't use the stuff but you could try approaching your local heat treating firm for some info. While you are there you can ask to buy some of their salts, enough for your needs, instead of 100 pounds of the stuff from a supplier. You might also score an old pot. Some of the stainless pots are a couple of thousand bucks. My heat treaters are realy good guys, maybe you will find the same.
