I have been wanting to go out and do some winter camping for a while this season but work always got in the way. Finally this weekend I had some time to go with my friend for a two day winter camping trip. We carried our gear in backpacks (US army Molle pack and FILBE packs) and pulled a sled loaded with a tent, stove and cot bed. The going was tough in the dense forest at night but after 1 hour we found a flat spot to camp.
We took the next day to scout around and discover a nice lake. After that we decided to make a quick survival shelter.
I have to say that this survival shelter worked great and kept us toasty with the long fire.

Anyways I just wanted to share this with you guys ! Her is a small video of my trip for those interested.

Good for you buddy. I am too much of a wussy now to do that stuff. Age changes perspective.

Looks like a nice couple of days in silence.
Consider an ice chisel for ice checking. Makes for safer unknown hard water travel.

Used one more than once for ice fishing also. Cord/rope on handle and around wrist is a must, as they tend to seek the bottom of lakes. The Indians of the northern fur trade used them to open beaver lodges in the winter.
