Just did my first Hot Vinegar soak on my BK15.

Boy it was really fizzing/bubbling. I kept pulling it out and checking it real quick (scared it was being too aggressive)

Did two about 5 minute sessions, rinsed and carded with a white(ulta fine) scotch brite pad

Got a nice black uniform finish. Rubbed some baking soda and hot rinse water on when I was done

I am surprised it turned out so black. I didnt think it would do this well.

Dont know if others steel wool it or something after or what. I like it how it is

Yup! You can play around with mustard too! I usually end up with an almost dark, dull green hue using both.

Wow, that looks great!

Just kidding, we really have no idea because your post is a big tease with no pics.

I used blue masking tape cut to the handle shape with a exacto knife(put the tape on the zytel scale flat and cut to shape of handle then transfer the tape to the blade)(I also used a white stabilo pencil to trace the edge of the top of the scale at the blade for reference for applying the blue tape) at the top of the handle and masked the rest of the handle. I stripped the blade with strip kleen super strength(not that citrus stuff). Let sit 15 minutes then scrape of paint. I applied stripper a second time to get any paint residue left in the tooling marks, used a plastic and metal scraper, wire brush for the jimping, exato knife for small hard to get spots and at the tape line at the scale line

I had the Blade coated with Kroil oil after I had stripped it. I washed the blade with dish soap, dried it, then wiped in down with Rubbing alcohol to degrease it, remove finger prints and oils. Think Ill use acetone next time.

I got the vinegar to a boil in the small aluminum pot. Put the blade in the yeller plastic beverage container(only the blade is stripped of paint). Poured in the hot vinegar up to where the paint was still on. Waited 5-7 minutes, rinsed and carded with a white scotch bright. Reboiled the vinegar. Let set another 5ish minutes, Rinsed carded with white scotch bright, Applied some baking soda and rubbed with finger , rinsed in hot water, dried with towel .

BK16 is just paint stripped, BK15 vinegar bath. I didnt sand the blade at all, just paint striped only. Blackining doesnt show as good in the photo.
I think you can leave in the hot vinegar longer than 5 min. It was foaming fizzing so much I was worried it was really eating away. First 5 min I kept pulling it out and checking the condition. Edge is still sharp

The AC etching blackening of the logo disappears with the vinegar soak, looks like,
