Houghton Quench K vs. Parks 50 ???

As brought up by Farmer Phil -

Since Parks is so scarce in small quantities, how about an alternative product?
I’m not sure about small package sizes, but if it is suitable I will find out.

“Houghto Quench K”
Also listed as a fast oil.
with 7 - 9 seconds quench speed

The pdf brochure here is also interesting for fun.

How about it comments on this product by the metallurgy experts ???

And while we are at it-
How about a replacement for Parks AAA suitable for O1 ???

Steve - Houghton will sell you 5 Gal at a time or 1 Gal at a time. I have pricing in an email from them somewhere, it's not terribly priced. Nice folks, great to deal with.

I do believe that the Quench G is what Brownells sells as Tough Quench. 11-13 second oil with the "sweet spot" at around 150F.

I (just)found some other info on Don Fogg's forum.
(great-more forums to read)

As i understand it:
K is faster than G
Either one will do O1

I'm still curious about a "Fast" oil that will be suitable for W2 and 1095 hammon fun.

K is listed as a 7-9 second speed by the GM quench test.
How about a spec for #50 so i can compare them?
I have a tech service request in at Parks, but if anyone has the spec sheet, i would appreciate it.

AcridSaint -
I like that they have a Canadian office.
Within an hour's drive I can pickup and not have Haz and heavy shipping costs.

Perhaps another question we will need to be asking is what the ideal quench oil will be for this new Crucible 1086V or whatever they are calling it this week:D

FWIW My company uses Houghton fluid for our aluminum quenching. We have found the quality of the fluid to be excellent. It is very consistent from batch to batch.
