I have been looking for the elusive Parks #50. Speaking with the company they will not give any up. They do not even have any distributors. I was able to locate a distributor for Houghton quench oil. 7-9 second like parks #50. I can only get it in 54 gallon barres from Los Angeles. Based on the cost he gave me and shipping tome it will probably cost about $13 per gallon in 5 gallon buckets plus shipping. It does not have any DOT restrictions so it can be shipped UPS. If anyone is interested I will set up an order. I need at least 8 people to get the ball rolling.

Hey Chuck, are you talking about reshipping it after it comes to you or are they agreeing to ship buckets to various destinations? Or were you just looking for makers in your general area?

I will reship in 5 gal buckets. This is 7-9 second oil, same as parks #50. If you want 11 second oil you can get it at mcmaster carr. $50 plus ship.

I ordered directly from the manufacturer....it was around 50 dollars plus shipping. Mike

Mike,

Who did you call. I tried calling Heatbath and Houghton directly. Heatbath said not only no but h### no. HOughton refered me to a distributor in Los Angeles and they will only sell in 54 gallon drums. I will have to have the drum shipped to me and repackage it in 5 gallon buckets.

Tom.

Not sure what shipping will be but i purchased 5 gallons of quench oil from McMaster Carr and it cost me $25 to get it from LA. It is about the same distance from me to were you are. I am only est the price at $13/ gallon based on my cost plus estimated shipping to me. I will repackage and ship back out at my cost. if it is less than $13/gallon I will sell it for less. Before I take the next step I want to see if there is enough interest.

What steel are you quenching? Tough Quench is 10 second oil at 150F, I think. This is not the first time that I have heard that the Parks folks are not terribly accomodating. Whats up with that and how do people still manage to get the stuff? I would be interested in a bucket of that stuff. let me know when yhou get an idea of how much it would cost to ship to Florida.

Thanks Chuck, just wanted a ballpark figure. Building a new quench tank with a flow pump. I just checked the volume and Ill need 10 gal (need 7.5) not 5 thanks.

I am quenching w-2 with an emphasis on Hamon developement. I have a 10-11 second oil, McMaster Carr high speed quench oil. I am interested in getting that extra 2-3 seconds to see what it does.

I just spent the afternoon with Patrick Hastings and Dan Pfannenstiel. We did a water quench from a salt bath on a clay coated blade. The blade was 1050 and it has an absolutly wild Hamon. Polishing is very important also and picked up a few pointers.

The quenchant I ordered was from ELM...click on my link and you will see their url

Chuck....it looks like Darren Ellis is going to try to score both #50 and AAA from Heatbath and repackage in 5 gallon buckets, so unless you are looking to get into the oil biz, your problem may be solved.

I hope he has better luck than i did. I was told by someone high up in sales that they would only sell to someone "in the industry". I hope he does get some if not i can get him in touch with the houghton rep.

Chuck. Hamon development aside, is the Tough Quench fully hardening the W2 blades? That is my primary concern.

I am not using tough quench. I have the fast oil available from McMaster Carr. It is a 10-11 second at 70f. It is fully hardening the blade. Right now I am looking for as much action in the Hamon as I can get. This is why I am looking for a faster oil.
