I have built a rather nice Spyderco collection and now find myself in need of selling them. Certainly NOT a reflection of the MFG. but rather issues I can't control. I would like to see them as a starter for someone else or as add ons. Any one have a "best" ideal how to approach this ? I am not very Computer savvy and time is an issue. This IS NOT A SALES THREAD !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! IT is a question seeking advice, I WILL NOT SELL A SINGLE KNIFE OUT OF THIS THREAD. And I wish to thank Sal for a life of GREAT knife memories. The Chinese lum has been my EDC for the last 5 years, Black Ti Scales. :)

Become a gold member of the forums and then post them for sale with pictures or at the very least a detailed description of the condition of the ones you want to sell.

I'd imagine it's tough to just get completely out of it all in one lump sum wash of the hands... Atleast without taking a major hit to the wallet!

Probably see a lot of interest from current collectors with knowledge of the line-up who may only want a few select models you have, then they'll just resell the rest separately to recoup the money, or attempt to profit where you may not have the time to deal with individual sales to make top dollar.

Becoming gold member here seems it would allow you access to a LOT of people who have big budgets for knives.

Best of luck whatever you do, hopefully it isn't too pressing of a situation for you to be considering getting out of it and letting your Spyders go!

no disrespect at all, but Platinum since joining. , but I certainly do thank you. It does seem that no matter what or where I post members reply so fast and with either wanting to help or judgement. I often wonder, and that is why I need help as it's tough to do things like I want now, soft and gentle. I don't want to argue or offend anyone. I just want to resolve matters while I have time. I would be willing to accept the going rate, but I am not sure how to find that out. Does a list exist ? I have 72 nib never used in any manner. Just Spyderco's. Few thousand more others. And one last question, what do the 2 letters under the knife name, example
Volpe

mean ? and thanks again. rb black

RB,
Sorry to hear you need to get rid of your spyderco's, hope all is well. I would sell them in groups of 5 on here you can check the spyderco website and type model # in and it will tell you the MSRP. Alternatively you can search completed listings on Ebay, the ones in green sold and that would give you the going rate. GLWS.

The 2 letters are the date code.
First letter B (second letter alphabetically) is the second month of the year, second letter F (sixth letter) is 2006.

Selling a lot of knives at the same time on the forum can be a daunting task with all of the correspondence for each knife and the different personalities of each member you are dealing with. Some folks appreciate a minimum of contact and others require a lot of attention when spending their hard earned cash. It is their prerogative of course but just be prepared to be overwhelmed if you list too many.
I usually list 5 or 6 at a time to make sure everyone will get the attention they require/deserve and there are absolutely no screw ups on my end and they're all happy with the transaction.
You know how things work around here and if you ever want to sell another knife you need to be sure you've got all your ducks in a row making a sale.

I'd put them on the bay RB. Take 1-3 pics of each, new ones you could just take one pic , say a couple words of description ,and start them off at $0.99 and I almost guarntee you will get close to what you paid or more. You don't even need to explain condition there for used knives. You can list them here too but honestly with selling that many knives I think it would be easier to track all of them eaiser on the bay. Great thing about selling here though is you will save alot from fee's on ebay. Which is 10-13% of each sale. Maybe get a couple people to help you. I'd be up for helping you sell them free of charge. If doing alone though would go to the bay and have some friends and relatives help you. How many knives do you have to sell and when do you have to get rid of them by? If it's just 72 - 300 I'd just sell them all here. But if it's more than that is going to take a long time to sell here. Ebay you could just take one picture of each, start them off at a dollar and let them run. But their gonna take a nice cut out of the sales.

So far all good advises.
If you need to sell fairly fast, auction site is the better place. You will pay fee, but these much bigger traffic and selling prices are higher. 5-7 days auction with starting price $ 0.99 is a good advise. Make sure that auction ends at 8-10 p.m. any day of the week, except Friday or Saturday. Good pictures are plus. No reserve price. I do not recommend to sell overseas on the bay. Huge headache. Not a bad idea to buy insurance.
Good luck.

Would it be bad advise to recommend selling all the new ones in a "package deal" configuration?

If they are all NIB, there shouldn't be much in the way of questions over the knives themselves.

Just questions on price.

If you need to sell them, moving a bunch may be a good way to go. I honestly have no clue and am kind of asking myself for future reference in case I find myself in need of moving my own collection.

I agree that small portions will be more manageable, but to get a lot of new knives for a set/reasonable price also seems appealing. I am sure that there are those floating around here with the means to pick up the entire lot.

Going to be watching this thread to see how this goes for you.

I wish you the best of luck with your situation and hope it all turns out well for you!

Hey Treeshaker,

If you decide to sell them on Bladeforums I would recommend selling them in batches. Maybe put up 5-10 knives at a time in one post so they are easier to keep track of/manage all the emails and PMs.

The other route would be to come up with one giant listing with all of the models and prices and post it up at once, but that may be a headache with all of the emails/PMs and trips to the post office you will have.

I hope all is well, sorry you have to sell your collection.

Put them on flea bay for the most $$$ I'll bid on the C65 Lum Chinese:D

Hope things turn around for you an you land on your feet.

I strongly advise against selling in batches. It will takes much longer, unless you want to sell them for the half of the price or less.

Hey Rodney...seems like we've talked or did a deal in the past. I wish only the best for you in this situation.

Others have offered ways to sell the knives. What's important is that you figure out a plan or strategy that will work for you. Such as list only the number of knives you could process (mail) if they all sold on the day you listed them.

It's great you have boxes as you could scan the bar code for the correct info on each knife. I use the Red Laser app on my phone to do that. It's not fool proof as some codes may be incorrect.

Let me know if there's any thing I can do.

Mike
