I have two cats, a bob tail and a maine coon. I have had the maine coon for about 7 yeras and the bobtail about 2. We have no litter box. The cats will meow at the door to go out, or come in. Never an accident, unless we lock them inside too long. They pretty much started doing this on thier own, anyone else ever experienced this?

Cats want to use the bathroom where they can cover it up the easiest. Litterboxes provide the ideal indoor environment, since most people dont have a sandbox inside. I got my two cats when they were little kittens and they have never used anything but their litter box.

Never really had to "train" a cat for a litterbox, usually just set the kitten in it and walk away, once they crawl out of it, they know their way back to it and go there on their own.

Had a friend that uses your method though, she let her house cat "out" like a dog. And never had a problem in town. Were we lived, we had lots a outdoor feral "barn" cats, that we had to keep separated from our indoor declawed cats, so we had to use litterboxes.

I have a female cat that uses a littlerbox, but I also have a male cat who would much rather go outside. He only uses the litterbox if he is unable to go outside for very long periods of time.

I did have a female cat, my ex-wife kept her, that would come inside to use the litterbox and then go back outside.

We have a "cat door" built into our bedroom window that all our cats use to go outside/come back in by. That works out very well.

We also have a Maine Coon (Rudy)...A very LARGE, but very nice-looking cat with ALOT of fur and a very fluffy tail. Ours is about 7 years old, and like all of our cats, is totally housebroken.

My cat I have to say is the ultimate suburban pet. Trained not to claw things with a squirt gun, ultra soft and cuddly, doesn't spray, goes outside to when he has to go, but has the option of a litterbox.

I rarely let my cat in for more than a few hours at a time, but if I do she generally starts to either meow at me or get antsy and start wandering around when she wants out.

Back in eastern Europe my father's cats were trained to use the toilet.

Really. My grandmother apparently trained the first cat to squat on the edge of the toilet seat and use the toilet like a human, and then each new cat they got was taught by observing the older cat.

THAT is house trained. Romanian cats are smarter than your kids.:)

We had a cat door and had to get rid of it because one of the cats started bringing live prey into the house.

My cats are indoor cats, rarely go outside. If they do, then they want to come back in to use the stinkin litter box.

...And where's the problem there? I look at it as entertainment when my cats bring me a live bird, mouse, etc...:D.:D.
