How about a Busse "tracker" style blade? The Triceraheart?

Sounds cool. I have always wondered what it is they actually excel at though.. is it a:

1. Choppy on the green lumber kinda boi?
2. A crafty in the bush kinda boi??
3. A blue collar Jack kinda boi???

As long as he makes me a Push Dagger before the coming societal collapse I got five on it (mostly kidding, but not about the gambler.. I do desperately want that 🤪)

Never did buy that one from TOPS. All I know is they look pretty damn cool and I would actually buy a Busse (kin) version even though the idea of reprofiling it to a thinner angle makes me want to swallow bleach.

You imagining a slab handle or res-c on this hypothetical doodad? I love these knife idea threads if it wasn't obvious already.

I think of them more like a small hatchet with extras than a knife.

Resin c would make for a good chopper. Looks wise, an ASH handle with a tracker blade would be sick.

SXB Type tracker 10" blade for the bigger model with real working saw serrations on the spine for the back half of the blade with a thick tip for prying type work. That would be a useful one tool survival type tool.

Well.... i got the TOPS version. It's.... ok. Not great. IMO, the big one from TOPS is still lacking in length. The corner between the straight portion and the hatchet looking front curved part of the blade should be eliminated. Because of the lack of length and the configuration of the planform of the blade, that ends up being the sweet-spot for chopping, for me. So what ended up happening is you get a divot in the wood, then the straight part of the blade starts getting into the chopping, and it just throws everything off. It really is only there to get the tight inside curve that is SUPPOSED to be great for helping shape arrow shafts. Really? When is the last time any of us shaped up or trued arrow shafts? And when did you depend on one big-a** knife to do it? Otherwise, it is supposed to shave feather sticks miraculously. Well, yeah, if you want to drag the knife toward you while you're doing that. That can go badly real quick. MAYBE the right person could do it pushing... but to me it seems exceedingly awkward. The saw on the spine is too short to be of real use for anything other than trying to use the sides of the teeth maybe to strike a firesteel. And I just don't see it being great as a gutting or skinning knife. Yeah, it would probably do it. But I think I have about 20 other knives that would do THAT better. Maybe split the pelvis on a deer? But I've never had to do that either. Cracking bones! Now THERE is something it would probably be good at. Too heavy for fighting (another thing I've never done, and never intend to). Good luck if you actully manage to stab it into anything alive. You're going to have to cut it back out with something else, because the combination of the teeth and that danged corner are going to make it work like a harpoon.

While the knife looks awesome, and felt great in hand when I got it, once I started trying to use it... I couldn't really find a good use for it. One other thing it MIGHT excel at is scraping a hide. That is one thing that I didn't try. Well, that and truing up an arrow shaft.

There used to be a long running thread over on another forum where one guy really excelled in using it. But it also seemed that the thread promoted finding special tasks that the blade excelled at. OK, that's fine. But really, when I comes to a knife, I want a generalist, that can do pretty good at everything.

Needless to say, I satisfied my curiosity, and ended up NOT being a fan of it either.
