WHy is there not a dedicated Kershaw Forum? I think KErshaw has a large enough following to merit its own section. Anyone agree?

I think it would be worthwhile, but someone from Kershaw would have to be willing to dedicate the time to moderating it.

Thomas W has stated that he thinks a Kershaw forum is a good possibilty for the future. Things are just too busy for him right now. I think it would be good for Kershaw and for BF.

The manufacturers probably have to pay to get a section in the forum there, which is why Benchmade isn't there either. Probably why it says "Manufacturers: Interested in a forum on the busiest knife discussion website in the world? Contact us"

i dont know if it costs or not, probably does though i would say.

manufacturer participation is critical for it to work though yrs ago REKAT had a forum and didnt monitor it at all and imho the REKAT forum did REKAT wayyy more harm than good, folks got mad when the REKAT folks rarely, if ever, responded to any q's/etc. wasnt any way to run a railroad imho.

I agree it would be a problem if not done correctly. I would like to see a dedicated Kershaw forum though. Joe L.

I guess it would be a lot of extra work for Thomas W. Time he could spend developing more cool knives for us! Maybe with all the Money Kershaw makes on this year's new knives, Thomas could hire a Blade Forums Assistant and we can finally get our Kershaw Forum:D

No.

I'll explain in detail later if somebody doesn't beat me to it -- don't have time right now....

What a manufacturer's forum does need is a moderator, usually from the manufacturer, who is very knowledgeable of that manufacturer and its products and policies, to run the forum. If you look at the best run manufacturers' fora, you will see that they have involvement from the manufacturers in the form of customer serevice reps or even, in some cases, the owners of the companies. Look at Sal Glesser's involvement in the Spyderco Forum. Now Sal appointed Carlos, a Spyderfan, as a comoderator with him since he, Sal, is so busy, but Tazkristi, also of Spyderco, posts as well, and that Forum flat rocks.

There was a forum for an unspecified knife company where the deserved criticism of one of their products got so bad that the company pulled its support of the forum and BladeForums management shut the forum down. That is a risk that having a dedicated forum runs. So, perhaps Kershaw does not wish to run that risk or perhaps they don't wish to spare anyone to take the time that is needed to properly run a popular forum.

If you all will read the other manufactirers' fora, you will see that the posts are not all laudatory, indeed, some can get downright hostile. It may be that Kershaw doesn't wish to deal with that hassle.
