How about a Manix LW Salt?

I've always said that the popular models should come in a standard version, a salt version and a version with premium steel.

Would a ball bearing lock work in a Salt format, or would it have to be changed to a back lock?

I hope the bb lock could work. Doesn’t the spydiechef have a rustproof bb lock?

I don’t have a Spydeichef, but I think it’s a frame lock.

My concern would be the coil spring. I would imagine that the ball bearing itself could be changed to ceramic, but I don’t know if a spring could be made corrosion-proof (or near corrosion-proof).

What spring material do they use in the lockback salts? There is still a torsion spring in those to actuate the lockbar.

I’d imagine you could get a custom spring made out of inconel, titanium, or beryllium copper if standard 300 series steel wouldn’t hold up.

I love my Manix 2's, both G10 and LW versions but probably wouldn't buy a Salt version.

I prefer the backlock Salt's like my Native 5 Salt, Pacific Salt and my Dragonfly 2 Salt.

They use something pretty corrosion proof for the autonomy line.

Personally I wouldn't want that design in a salt. Of course to me salt means beach and sand. Sand in the bbl or spring would be nasty. The autonomy 2 is pretty easy to rinse sand out of. I've done it. I never remembered to bring my manix to the beach and I broke the cbbl so I can't test it anymore.

I wasn’t aware that a BB lock had been used on a model for salt water use. But as VashHash says, sand or mud would be awful around one. But if a BB lock can be made to be nearly corrosion proof, IMO, that’s great in itself.

you are correct, it isn’t a BB lock. I bet they could make or source a stainless spring.

I missed it :(
I didn’t see a post they arrived and they’re sold out !

Sign up for email alerts at several retailers... it's a regular production item so will continue to show up as batches are produced. Early batches are small and sell out fast.

I got one a few weeks back and have been carrying it ever since. I love it. It won’t go in the ocean, but it will be perfect for a lightweight option for summer hiking. It’s humid here in the summer and I sweat like crazy.

I have one ordered, arriving monday. Thank you!
One down, two to go!

I'm not sure I consider it full salt like I do my Pacifics, waterway, or delica sized salt in LC. More like the autonomy. After opening it up, there's just a lot going on in there, including pockets, the spring, and those slabs that go next to the washers and connect to the blade stop area. And Magnacut isn't H1 or H2. That said, it seems like a perfect LW carry that can get sweaty, dirty, and wet. That FRCP is different than FRN. Requires synthetic dye if you plan on doing that.

I guess we will see. I had it in my pocket fishing and snorkeling in Key Largo last week. So far no signs of rust and it held a great edge.
