How about a Neck(tie) Knife?

I was struck with an idea today. Why haven't I seen any neck knives designed for concealment inside an ordinary-looking necktie? Sure, it would require a somewhat narrower profile than some, but it would be a perfect disguise while providing really fast access. And you while the width would be limited you'd be able to get away with greater lengths.

Has anyone run across something like this? I don't wear a tie often enough to make this worthwhile for me, but I would think it would be the ideal solution for those who are required to dress up for work.

I think any slim neck knife can be carried like this. You glue on the kydex sheath a bit of that material (ARRGGGHHHH I don't know how it's called) they use for sneakers and stuff to replace the shoelace, you attach the other side on the back of the tie and VOILA! I'd try it but I hate ties :D

Hey Flava, I think you mean Velcro? I'd be a bit worried about ripping the knife and sheath off in one rather than just drawing the knife. Good idea though. Would mean you have the choice of whether or not to attach the knife.

You could probably stitch the sheath straight onto the tie's lining (taking care not to stitch through the entire tie of course) a la lapel daggers.

Or....

Make a slit in the bottom of the lining and make the sheath inside the tie itself.

Of course, have you considered rigidity? Most ties tend to flap about in the breeze, one reinforced with a dagger would be very noticable.

Edited to change typos.

The only way this would work is to have a small blade (ie Kit Carson's F4) and have the tie clip down. The sheath can be inside the tie or stuck to the back side below the clip. You probably have to get a custom sheath if you ever want to do that.

I was talking to Blilious yesterday and he told me there is a guy on the Blade show ciruit who conceals a Spyderco ladybug in his lapel on his suit shirts. I guess it fits in the space for the lapel stays. Hows that for concealment?

The Chris Reeve Mnandi is described in the sales literature as being suitable for use as a tie clip. I guess the knife would go inside the shirt and the clip would go over the tie.

You cannot pre-attach the sheath to the tie by stitch or glue or whatver. If you do, you won't be able to tie the tie correctly--it does need to go through some small knots and turns remember. Any sort of attachment would have to be done after the tie is on, and be removable so you can take the tie off.

I like them Clip-on ties:D

A clip on sheath for a clip on tie...hmmm... an interesting idea, for sure.

It's not an FB, but I believe Spyderco has a small Police version designed for this purpose.
