How about a premium steel Bucklite...

I would like to see Buck make a Bucklite type model with a premium steel blade (bg-42 or s30v).

As a hunter I want a knife that will hold an edge but also be easy to clean and maintain. Put the money in the blade instead of the handle... if you keep it in the $30-$40 range it should be a good seller. Or better yet a premium steel Selector.!?!

Thoughts?

ps...When I say Bucklite I mean the 422/426 finger groove models, not the flick-it type.

That would be a great knife if Buck hadn't stopped making the older style ones back in 1997. You're SOL unless you are willing to buy an old-style 426 (like on eBay) and then send it in to Buck for a blade upgrade. I did that last year right before their plant closure and move with two 426s and got the S30V upgrade on them for $35.00 each. I don't believe they have ever offered blade upgrades for the 112 (or 422) size knife, but some of us have been lobbying Buck here in the forum to offer such an option once they get all caught up at the new plant in Idaho and start doing custom work again.

No Bucklites models have ever had liners.

You coud get an Alpha with ATS-34, and replace the handles with the rubber handle kit. It is more expensive than what you mentioned, but I cleaned two deer with the 420 version, and it was awesome. By far the best hunting knife I have ever used.

I also understand that most think ATS-34 is not as good, but it is pretty durned close.

Wally, you got it backwards. 420hc is probably one of the best 'production ' steels around. With a good heattreating and proper edge geometry it takes and holds a good edge. ATS 34 is considered a premium steel and is spoken in conversations wtih BG42 and S30V. It was the forerunner to BG42 in Chris Reeve Sebenzas and Strider used it for a long time also. You cant go wrong either way.

I would also like to see a Bucklite with premium blade-steel.

I love Buck knives as much as the next guy, but as long as Buck uses 420HC on their folders, I'll just have to keep buying Spyderco folders.

Allen.

I have an old 422 from the 425M era which I like better than the newer 420HC, I wonder if there are any old 422 Bucklites out there from the 70's in 440C, those would be nice. I don't remember when the first Bucklites came out though.
