This should start the year of right for someone!

This is open to all paying members from the US! Winner will be picked in one week, Dec 31st early evening. Your post number will be your entry number should I decide to go that route.
Though as it stands right now, the Winner will be based upon the picture or content that I like the best.

To enter: Being that we are officially now in winter, I am missing the fair weather, camping and fishing. I want to see pics of your camp setups, views from camp, best fires, photos of fish caught for dinner (or released), the meals you have had while camping or anything you deem relevant to an enjoyable camping experience! Bonus points for funny stories especially if they accompany any pics.

The prize: This TM Hunt Hornet in Green Curly Maple!

Original sales thread: http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php/1137991-FOR-SALE-Curly-green-Hornet

Good luck and have fun!

(Nickel for size reference, not included, if you want one, get your own!)

Wow man, awesome GAW! Very generous of you!
I've always admired Todds work. That Hornet looks great.
Thanks for the chance!

My last camp trip was actually BeckerWest just outside of Eugene, OR.
It's a great site up on top of a mountain on private timber land behind a locked gate. An awesome place to camp!
Here's a few pics of the site:

Knife stump:

Here's the spot where we go shooting. It's almost totally enclosed by the hills. Perfect.

And just for giggles, here's a shot of Ethan Becker cooking bacon in his teeny tiny frying pan. :D

Here's a kind of funny story.
This last summer I took the little princess fishing at a small pond at a local park here in SW Washington.
It was a beatiful day and we had the pond all to ourself. Which was odd because there's usually quite a few people out fishing it.
As soon as her bobber hit the water she was reeling in this good sized trout!

We casted out again...and WHAM! She reeled in another!

We took them home and she helped me clean them up and we threw them on the grill.
She was so excited and she was telling my father in-law about the HUGE fish that she caught.
Well...as it turns out,(apparently I was the only one in town who was clueless) the pond was supposed to be closed for fishing the day we went. I had no idea.
And the pond had just been freshly stocked with large trout for a juvinille fishing derby that was scheduled to start the very next day!
No wonder fishing was so good! Lol :D

I'm in! Thanks for the chance at this generous GAW!

What a cool giveaway!! Thanks for the chance. I'm in!

Here is a trip report I posted on another sub forum about one of our last camping trips together. Like you, my wife and I are missing better weather. We used to only tent camp, but we came across a vintage Scotty that was in good shape and it's much easier on her back. Given that she was just diagnosed with cancer a few days ago, we fondly look back to trips like this and hope she beats this thing and recovers quickly!

Here is the trip from this past summer---

The Mrs and I went for a quite weekend.

Bailey was, of course, along for the ride too and that always makes picture taking a little challenging. But she just loves to go!

I took a break from fishing to let a few families have the cove for a while.

Mrs Schmittie was catching sunfish and I kept a few that swallowed the hook past saving them and used them for cutbait. I figured I could land a big channel cat and impress her. But my morning catch wasn't all that impressive. Only about 12-13"

EB5502BB-7F2C-4152-9F88-FA36DB4DF433.jpg

BUT, then on the next cast, when my pole almost flew into the water, I KNEW I landed the BIG ONE! However, when I was reeling it in, it was heavy but not resisting. It was a painted turtle! She was the first turtle I ever caught with rod and reel. The next few minutes I'm sure were pretty entertaining for our neighbors. The 10" long turtle was scrambling to get away and hissing at me trying to take the hook out while Mrs Schmittie was holding back Bailey who was incredibly intent on getting in the turtle's face AND she had the camera in the other hand.

This is the only pic of the fiasco -

Here is my little bushcrafty Fiddleback project. As usual, I should have taken more pics. But this is simple enough.

First I split a thin plank off some mystery wood in the pile. I used the hatchet to plane it down a little flatter.

Then I roughed out my shape.

It's a bullroarer. If you've seen Crocodile Dundee, he used one to make a 'telephone call' in the bush. It makes a pretty decent sound but I'm wondering if I would have made it thicker and heavier, it may be louder. I'll have to research it. But it's fun to mess with. :)

That's all for now. Thanks for looking!

Great posts so far! This is going to be harder than I had anticipated...

Jonny, I am really digging the knife stump, the rainbows and the anecdotal explanation as to the great luck!

TBL, I really like that pic of the heron, the pics of the 2 are nice, but you need a 4 or a 9 to split with! Lol

Schmittie, Great looking pup, as far as the roarer goes, if you use a thinner piece, you can go longer and a bit wider to get a deeper pitch but keep the weight down so it won't be harder initiate and maintain the swing. Keep it thicker around the eye and taper it down to keep the weight manageable. You can also thread the line through the eye then hang the roarer on a bowline or an ashley stopper to make it easy to remove without being forced to cut the line regardless as to how tight it pulls from you swinging it. Good luck to you and the misses. I know of a few people who have been diagnosed with cancer and all but one have beaten it. One is a survivor of pancreatic cancer too.

Merry Christmas everyone!

awesome giveaway - best of luck to all and thanks to the generosity.

some TM Hunt content, just because -- this is my Skelemag. The one my wife dropped down the hole in an outhouse. With its replacement sheath.
At the time it was dropped, Todd offered to make me a new one for free. I declined, because the knife and his friendship both mean enough to me that it was worth fishing back out and cleaning it back up.

That would be cool to win. Too bad I don't have the extra dough for a membership right now or I would enter.

Awesome giveaway! That Hornet would be a good gift for Amanda, she loves those green maple handles.

Here is a recap of one of the many camping trips to a pond that we love to hang out at.

SO, Jeremy & I decided to spend Sunday night in the woods w/our dog Becker............ & oh yeah.. we got to bring some knives too!

Here is our wonderful view from the ledge we camped on...

Our Campsite

5 minutes into setting up the horseflies were on us! It was BAD...we had to make a smudge-pot w/our fire because it was just too much..

......It kinda helped. ;)

The first thing Becker wanted to do was fetch the duck in the water ...

Before we knew it, the sun was setting.....and we were pretty excited to hear the sounds of the forest at night...

haha...a Random frog came to check out our camp ..

Beker passed out right away....he did ALOT of swimming while we fished before dark.....sorry no fish pics (we left the camera in the tent) :grumpy:

GOOD MORNING BECKER!!

We tried real-hard not to wake "dad".I'm sure all he's thinking about is swimming..

GOOD MORNING FOREST POND!

Jeremy knows if he wants breakfast, he better get some coals built up.

Becker was keeping an eye on some local wildlife....(ants)

Well he had a crisis....someone forgot to pack a spatula for the bacon & eggs.....needless to say Jeremy got a chance to do some bushcrafting---oh darn...

BK-2 to the rescue.....

The Bacon is waiting............

I Got Impatient...hahah

A little help from the Woodcrafter...

Tools that we took with us.

Becker decided to do some bush crafting as well..

We had a blast in the woods, hope this post inspires others to get out and enjoy the great outdoors.....Don't forget to bring the useful tools that Ethan created for us to enjoy =)

~Amanda

Thanks for the chance!

I am not in this one, but what a great GAW, from the generosity to the topic.

Great to see everyone outside, having a great time, and using their knives!

Good luck to all, and again, great GAW.

What a great giveaway. Thanks for the chance.

Here's the last camping we got in. It was a summer trip to Colorado.

We camped at Lake Vallecito outside Durango. The drive was long but beautiful.

Fortunately my guys can sometimes be easily entertained.

The campsite was nestled among the pines right on the lake.

There were several rainy afternoon/evenings and a couple of thunderstorm nights that didn't help anybody sleep.

The BK16 lived on my hip in camp, but got handed off for a little whittling by the youngest.

The 9 and 10 also came along for the ride along with a cheapy Winchester fixed blade that actually helped me stumble into Beckerdom.

Oldest son got to use the Winchester however he wanted to. Didn't take long until he had to spend a bit of time practicing his sharpening.

We tried out something I have heard of for years but never used - pie irons.

Attempt #1 didn't go well.

Turns out you aren't supposed to put the pie irons directly on the coals.

Attempt #2 yielded much better results.

Most of the cooking was done on a Coleman stove. I found this cool chain-mail cast iron scrubber that worked really well and will be a welcome addition to the home cast iron cleaning efforts.

We got in some hiking,

a run up to Purgatory, a trip to Mesa Verde,

and I even pulled off a very little bit of fishing. Caught a couple of small small-mouth bass.

Glad we went. Hopefully we'll get to go back.

Thanks for the chance again. Fun to see everyone's pics.
