How about an assisted ZT-0560?

As far i can tell, any form of ball bearing washers wouldn't work too well with assist. So honestly it wouldn't be nearly as great of the knife. The reason why i love my 560 is that i just push on the flipper and the blade literally glides open. I know everyone it gonna say 566 answers this question but that is a much different beast than the 560 is

Why won't bearings and an assist work together?

It's really not, there is 1.1 inch size difference between the two

Correct. The 0566 is 7.7" and the 0560 is 8.8".

Anyone else like to see a spring assisted Zero Tolerance 0560?

Not me. There's no point.

Why won't bearings and an assist work together?

Perhaps the races and bearing holders take up more space than would be ideal to fit a torsion bar onto the proper part of the tang.

Moreover, when they use the bearings to assist the opening of the knife, what exactly would a spring do in addition to that? The whole charm of the bearings is the smooth travel.

My 0560 is already fast enough. I do not think there is a need to be assisted. To me, bearings/KVT + a good detent is just as good/fast as an assisted knife. Although I should add that I am not a big fan of assisted since bearings have been out because I do not have to force the blade into the closed position.

No. I am enjoying manual flippers very much, and I don't need to see a great one ruined with an assist. Once the novelty wears off, there really isn't a point.

A spring assist would completely ruin the 0560. It wouldn't open any faster or easier and you would loose that amazingly smooth and fast closing you get on the 0560.

When I got started with knives I found the assisted openers desireable. At time and experience have evolved, I much prefer a smooth manual opener, flipper or otherwise.

The Kershaw and ZT knives I have that sport KVT would not benefit from assisted opening, since they fly open very fast as it is.

It would be like strapping a rocket engine to the side of a top fuel dragster.

Some might like that level of overkill, so I would not mind seeing one made just to see what overkill feels like. ;^)

Ok, all you spring - assisted haters......... just kidding..... I should have clarified earlier; I was not thinking of an assisted 0560 with KVT, but with some kind of washer system. The videos I've seen of the 0560, show the user having to flip his wrist to get the knife to open fully. I don't really like having to do that. Do some 0560's open fully just by pressing the flipper? I'd like to press the flipper and have the knife open fully without having to flip my wrist. Unfortunately, not many assisted knives available in the (near) 9 inch length, especially with the quality of a ZT.

I haven't heard of ANY 0560/1 needing to be opened with some wrist action. From what I've read, they're some of the smoothest knives on the market.

Oh yea man - they open all the way with no flick.

I am assuming you have not experienced a KVT, so let me try to give you a little idea of how free-swinging these knives are.

I used to "test" my knives by holding the blade verically, with the handle extended out at 90 degrees, horizontally.

I would release the handle, and if the handle would swing downward to close the knife, I felt like I had a nice smooth action.

With the advent of KVT, I can hold the handle and the BLADE will swing down and shut - it is that much freer in action.

All of the Kershaw/ZT knives I have experienced that have KVT can very easily be opened with the flipper with no additional wrist action.

In fact, I can hold my 560 vertically, with the tip down, and flip the blade up and open to lock, easily.

Once you have had KVT, you want more.
