How about an HA Aluminum handled Spyderco?

I really tend to like aluminum handles and I think they look good with age. They develop nice character. I've held a couple aluminum handled knives that have Hard Anodized (HA) handles and they were grippy enough. I think back to some of the Terzoula's (C15) that were aluminum and man they sure were nice knives.

Anyone else like aluminum handles? What about a Spydie with a aluminum handle?

The old Almite aluminum handles had no grip and they looked pretty but sucked for grip.

What say ye?

I don't know. I'm kind of down on metal handles. Maybe Ti for fancy dress but most of the time G-10 makes the best fit for me.

I think the aluminum handles are too much in the past.

I'm tired of Ti and I think it makes things too expensive.....also enough with frame locks.

Can't disagree. Unless I can find my perfect Shirogorov for a decent price in which case I completely disagree!!!!!

Think that would be the end of TI frame locks for me though....probably.

Anodized metal that dents, dings and snail trails.
Slicker than slot texture.

No thanks.
I rather have peel ply G10 that has traction.
And when it gets a dent it is still the same color

Yeah, I'd like to see some Spydies done in Aluminum again. Like the OP stated, they look cool with some dings, can be produced to be grippy enough, are pretty light and fairly reasonable in price.

If you have ever felt a Hard Anodized piece of aluminum (like the Benchmade 940) you would know it is not slicker than snot. It's pretty grippy. I agree that it dings and dents a little. I like that. I like a well loved/used tool.

:)

IMO, I think if the handle design itself lends to hand retention, Aluminum is fine. It's strong & lightweight too. If retention is based on handle texture alone, maybe Al or Ti isn't a good choice.

I chose Aluminum over Titanium when purchasing these Lynch scales.

I agree. Not crazy about metal handles and tired of titanium now. Also frame locks and flippers that can t be opened by thumb.
