Hi guys,

I have been looking for a folder to be a hunter-skinner (long time quest)

The spyderco streach comes close but not as good as the wegner or the impala.

What if I mod the tip of the persian to be like that of the streach? I dont have a persian yet but thought i ask those who have one at hand.

Do you think this mod would work?

Think the Persian would be a pretty good skinner without mods.

As for the mod, define "would work". It could be done and, aside from losing a bit of blade length, would probably not look too horrid on the full flat ground non-bolstered version.

I believe Mr. Schempp has posted before about how good of a skinner the Persian is. I'd give one a try before doing the mod.

The blade shape is already very good for skinning/caping. I'd try it first so see if it works well before modifying it. Some hunters prefer a drop point though.

True. It also depends somewhat on the animals you plan to hunt and whether or not you intend to do something with the skin. A knife that's great for skinning deer and bear probably won't be the best choice for skinning squirrels and rabbits.

A blade shape like the Persian makes an excellent skinner . The upswept blade is the best shape on the skinning of game animals as it allows the whole edge to be used. The drop joint works best when gutting and removing the entrails of the game animal as it will not tear or penetrate the entrails and guts like the higher point of the Persian. My first Deer hunting knife was a fixed blade Schrade Skinner pattern and it worked just fine. You have to be more careful with the higher point on a skinner/Persian type blade. I beleive the new G10 Persian is a great all around knife. My new Black G10 Persian should be here today.
